Job Type: Full time, Hourly

Wage: $19-22/hr.

Location: Leadville, CO.

Job Description

This position performs direct and indirect patient care in collaboration with members of Family Health Center Clinical Team, and assumes responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating and collaborating with the team to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • Some college or advanced educational training, preferred.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • One year healthcare experience (pre-hospital, ED and/or patient care) preferred
  • Basic computer skills: Word, Excel

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Medical Assisting Certification or Chief Medical Officer Certification of skills.

  • Uses Rural Health Clinic, Hospital and Family Health Center Guidelines of care, hospital policies/procedures and regulatory guidelines to guide work within scope of practice.
  • Responsible for reporting unusual symptoms, observations, patient requests and/or their families’ requests.
  • Identify safety needs of patients and answer calls, inquiries, and messages promptly per FHC policy and procedures.
  • Provides patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect for the human experience in a collaboration with other team members.
  • Assists care team in achieving patient and family goals.
  • Leaves patient care area neat, tidy, and stocked with necessary supplies at the end of each shift.
  • Communicates concerns regarding hazards or errors related to patients to the health care team.
  • Demonstrates effective use of clinical strategies to ensure patient and team member safety.
  • Accurately and timely documents all tasks, observations, and procedures performed in the patient record according to medical and legal standards.
  • Maintains thorough and confidential patient charts and records.
  • Communicates with colleagues and allied personnel regarding patient care to maintain continuity of care between departments and care providers.
  • Facilitates room turnover between patients, stocking, and exchanging supplies in the FHC.
  • Ensures FHC work environment and patient rooms are neat and free of clutter.
  • Abide must abide by all Policies and Procedures that apply to FHC and St. Vincent Health.
  • The Medical Assistant must participate in staff and educational meetings.
  • Know when to move quickly, sit quietly, laugh loudly and be able to have fun at work.
  • Possess the attitude that while individuals can be strong, the right team is invincible.
  • Other duties consistent with patient and FHC needs.

Clinical Activities

Medical Assistant may also responsible for a number of clinical activities under the supervision of FHC Providers. Competencies for these tasks shall be verified and signed off by FHC’s Medical Director. These tasks may include:

  • Drawing blood.
  • Taking vitals
  • Taking a medical history
  • Medication reconciliation.
  • Giving injections.
  • Applying and changing dressings.
  • Working in the FHC lab.
  • Obtaining observations of the patient's health and reporting them to the Provider.
  • Maintaining health records of the patient and producing it, whenever necessary.
  • Collecting urine samples and sending them for diagnosis.
  • Assisting Provider and FHC team with patient care.
  • Helping providers with medication refills, calls to patients.
  • Other duties consistent with patient and FHC needs.
