Job Description
The Fremont County Weed Management Specialist provides expertise in Integrated Weed Management (IWM) and serves as a source of communication with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in southern Colorado as a representative of the County’s Weed Management Program. Performs seasonal field duties, applying IWM practices, associated with noxious weed management in Fremont and surrounding counties that are members of the Upper Arkansas Cooperative Weed Management Area. Prepares daily records, interfaces with a variety of local, state, and regulatory agencies; provides landowner assistance; and may prepare maps and provide input to grant writing and reporting process. Applies herbicides, provides plant identification services, operates within State laws and/or regulations and reclamation standards, and performs daily record-keeping. Maintains a safe working environment including practicing safe workplace procedures and wearing all required protective equipment. Performs field operations including sprayer calibration, mixing of herbicides, UTV operation, herbicide application, and equipment repairs in the field. Performs basic mapping duties using GPS equipment. Maintains daily records of biological, cultural, mechanical, and chemical management methods performed; equipment calibrations; site monitoring; and all other required permits and documentation
Qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two (2) years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous use or knowledge of mapping equipment and software. Experience with operation of UTVs, off-road vehicles, and other support equipment and herbicide application is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Valid and current Colorado Driver’s License is required. Candidates may be hired prior to obtaining a Qualified Supervisor License from the Colorado Department of Agriculture or a similar license agreement from the state of Colorado; however this license will be required to be obtained while employed.
