SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Water and Wastewater Division Manager, the Water Lead Lab Tech/Operator is the lead worker in the operation and maintenance of water facilities to meet all applicable regulatory requirements.

    • Salary Range: $66,675 - $93,345 DOE
  • Grade 40 Water and Wastewater Certification “B”
    • Salary Range: $60,614 - $84,859 DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Water Treatment Plant Operations

  • Assist the operation and maintenance of water facilities to meet all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Perform equipment maintenance and repairs to ensure plant effluent quality limits are maintained
  • Calibrate water plant instruments
  • Order plant related equipment and chemicals
  • Support plant operator staff in resolving equipment and process issues; train new staff on operations
  • Monitor quality and progress of work; ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Monitor water meter readings and backflow prevention assembly program
  • Read residential and commercial water meter; repair meters and cross connection control devices
  • Assist with maintaining the raw water line from Stillwell Tunnel to plant, upper pond, and Mill Creek Head Gate
  • Perform other tasks and related duties as assigned

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate records and logs of operational parameters, maintenance activities, and compliance data
  • Order equipment and chemicals; prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required
  • Monitor compliance with comprehensive settlement agreement
  • Coordinate water compliance reporting with third party consultants
  • Maintain and assign tasks using asset management database

Safety

  • Maintain a safe work environment by recognizing and reporting unsafe conditions and practices
  • Assist with the implementation of plant safety program; conduct safety trainings; utilize PPE
  • Ensure awareness and safe handling of chemicals; ensure subordinates are chemically aware

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications): High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license; three (3) years experience in water treatment; State of Colorado Class A or B Water, State of Colorado Class D Wastewater, backflow prevention assembly tester certification required or ability to obtain within six (6) months; CPR and First Aid required or ability to obtain within six (6) months; ongoing participation in Confined Spaces training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: State, Federal, and Local laws and regulations that govern water treatment; microbiology; industrial pretreatment program; laboratory and plant operating procedures; sample preservation; methods, policies, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair and installation of water treatment plant components; occupational hazards and corresponding safety measures; mechanical, biological, and chemical processes involved in the operation of a water treatment plant; Town personnel policies.

Skill in: applying technical knowledge; operating and maintaining equipment used in the water treatment process; performing, analyzing, and interpreting laboratory tests for purposes of making operational adjustments and completing required reporting; recognizing equipment and process problems and needed repairs; using proper protective equipment; effective communication.

Environmental Factors:

Work is primarily performed in water, wastewater plants and facilities with raw sewage, chemicals, noxious odors, in confined spaces and at heights. Work is often performed outdoors in adverse weather. On-call requirements including ability to respond to emergency or abnormal facility situations outside of normal work hours.

Physical Factors:

The ability to sustain heavy physical exertion, move, lift heavy objects regularly and up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance on occasion is required. On call requirements.
