Commerce Operations Group at Pax8:

Pax8’s Commerce Operations Group is passionate about driving billing and invoicing accuracy through proactive and ongoing reconciliation, smart tooling, automation, and observability, collaborative strategic roadmap ideation with Product Engineering, and low-friction forensics and response when issues arise. We achieve this through caring about the details, ruthlessly driving efficiency and effectiveness in our time management and process, collaboration, and business-value focus. 

To ensure that we work effectively, we’re committed to collaboration across Pax8’s global business and especially with our colleagues in Finance, Vendor Operations, Support, Sales, and Product Engineering. We clear barriers by compulsively assessing cost-benefit to ensure that the highest impact work and processes can be implemented quickly so we can build resiliency and accuracy into our systems. We solve both user and business problems pragmatically through short incubation and frequent iteration.

Position Summary:

The VP of Marketplace Commercial Operations is responsible for overseeing the objectives and implementation of all strategies within the Commerce Operations Group (COG) to reduce frication and operational risk in billing, pricing, and risk fraud within the Pax8 platform. They have oversight and contribute to the overall success of the Pax8 Platform, in partnership with the SVP of Engineering, SVP of Product, and other key stakeholders across the business. The VP builds and leads an empowered team to drive cross-company initiatives to reinvent, refine and innovate Pax8’s approach to our Billing Pricing, Risk Fraud, and Observability Automation by ensuring that all functions are aligned and connected to the overarching COG goals. They are the primary stakeholder of these key commerce elements and how the COG function interfaces with the Pax8 product and internal stakeholders through harnessing feedback and data points to define requirements to achieve the strategic goal.

Essential Responsibilities and Percentage of Time Spent (includes, but is not limited to):

1. Identifies, iterates, builds, and validates the strategies of the COG team:

  • Controls and monitors aggregate cost to the business in churn, spoilage, reputation, and manual remediation through proactively responding to sources of billing and pricing inaccuracies. 
  • Drives Pax8’s response to security and fraud threats. Manages and measures exposure, designs risk - limiting programs, coordinates directly with outside security and fraud teams, orchestrates communications, and interfaces with affected partners.
  • Builds transparency, situational awareness, and scalable tooling for identifying and mitigating Pax8’s vulnerability to problems with pricing billing and incumbent risks around security fraud.
  • Analyzes activity within the company’s industry to develop the best and most effective business plans and establish realistic and meaningful strategies.
  • Leads cross-company COG initiatives by prioritizing and delivering continuous progress against goals
  • Recruits and guides functional team to delivery on the priorities of the COG
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to develop and meet COG goals while supplying expertise and guidance on commercial operational models
  • Recommends effective solutions to Product Engineering (P&E) team to reduce operational risk and increase alignment with business needs
  • Provides operational leadership, direction, and consultation to COG teams to develop maturity and independence while driving a culture of continuous improvement
  • Supports, implements, and communicates the COG strategic direction, vision, and mission
  • Develops and delivers presentation materials to provide recommendations to the executive team
  • Ensures alignment of priorities and organizational structure with the goals of the business, analyzing and planning the execution of organizational changes
  • Provides analysis, recommendations, and options to the P&E leadership team, regarding high-impact decisions or issues

Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:

· At least five (5) years’ experience in related field

· Experience developing and driving new initiatives and strategies

· Self-starter with the ability to execute and implement change

· Strong influence management skills: ability to work cooperatively at all levels in a matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals

· Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness – ability to communicate to various levels of management and employees succinctly and accurately

· Exceptional analytical, strategic, planning, organization, and time management skills to effectively execute strategy and budgets

· Business acumen: ability to think from an overall “best for the business” perspective

· Demonstrates initiative; results oriented

· Excellent decision-making skills – ability to negotiate and balance decisions and manage competing priorities across multiple functional areas

· Ability to navigate internal stakeholders, manage communication, and coordinate various project tasks 

 Ability to adapt approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations

· Ability to take a broad view when approaching issues using a global lens

· Ability to paint a compelling picture of the vision and strategy that motivates others to action

Required Education Certifications:

· B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience

· Certifications in project/program/portfolio management required

· Previous experience with global expansion and emerging markets preferred

Work Environment: Professional office environment. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, printers, and filing cabinets. Remote and/or hybrid work at Pax8 requires all employees to have adequate secure and private internet service.

Physical Demands: Sedentary role; primarily involves sitting/standing

Travel Requirements: Periodic travel required including some international

Compensation: Qualified candidates can expect a salary beginning at $145,000 or more depending on experience

*Note: Compensation is benchmarked on local Denver Metro area market rates. Qualified candidates in other locations can expect a salary package that may be adjusted based off applicable cost of wages in their respective location.
