About the Position:
  
 
The City of Grand Junction is looking for a skilled and responsible Utilities Maintenance Supervisor who will plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned Water Department staff.  This position will oversee duties such as pipeline maintenance, utility locating and plant maintenance.  As the Utilities Maintenance Department Supervisor, you'll participate in the selection of staff and work with employees to correct deficiencies.  Your expertise and leadership will ensure the efficient and safe operation of the facility while complying with regulatory standards and guidelines. About the Water Division
The City of Grand Junction Water Department provides drinking water for about 30,000 customers.  Our customers enjoy being the first users of pristine snowmelt off the Grand Mesa, which is diverted out of Kannah Creek and into Juniata Reservoir before being piped 20 miles to the Water Treatment Plant.  The Water Department has a staff of 32 employees working together in areas such as Pipeline Maintenance, Water Treatment, Water Supply, Customer Service, and Environmental Laboratory Services in order to provide excellent service to our customers.  Our employees are responsible for monitoring and maintaining over 300 miles of pipe, 2 water treatment plants, 10,000 taps, and 86 square miles of watershed.

Duties

What You'll Do:  

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of fifteen (15) water department maintenance personnel. 
  • Plan, coordinate, implement and review a variety of maintenance, repair, and reconstruction activities in area of assignment.
  • Inspect the work of crews in progress and upon completion.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for assigned programs and functions.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public. 
  • Participate in the development and administration of the department’s annual budget.
  • Supervise the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records. 
  • Participate in the full range of operations, maintenance, repair, and construction duties including to perform the most difficult duties assigned to the work unit.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.   

What We're Looking For: 
  • Four (4) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public works facilities including one (1) year of administrative or lead supervisory responsibility.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in maintenance, construction or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year from date of hire, Collections and Distribution IV Certificate issued by the State of Colorado.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
