Position Type: Full-time, 174 days per year

Location: District, may serve multiple sites

Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 174-day Special Services Salary Schedule and based on education and experience. Range $54,174 - $78,442

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, School Psychology, School Social Work, or other related licensed Special Service Providers area required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Specific transition coursework or experience will also be considered.
  • Valid Colorado Special Services License, Principal’s License with SPED Endorsement, or Professional Special Educators License properly endorsed for proposed assignment
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with children 0-21, with an emphasis on children with special needs.
  • Must possess valid Colorado Driver License

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of disability areas under IDEA.
  • Knowledge of how disabilities impact an individual’s ability to function in the post-secondary setting.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations that protect individuals with disabilities in education, employment, and community.
  • Knowledge of CCSD policy and district policies/procedures, or the willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of adult service providers and services in the community and state.
  • Creative thinker, a growth mindset, and solutions and goal-oriented.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Highly organized in paperwork and time management
  • Strengths in interpersonal skills with students, parents and co-workers
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language and comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities.
  • Skilled in conducting small group and individual student counseling
  • Expertise in behavior management and students' exceptionalities
  • Expertise in IEP Writing and IDEA Requirements.
  • Strengths in oral and written communication as well as listening
  • Experienced in facilitating meetings to secure participation and input from team members
  • Positive attitude
  • Trained in the administration and interpretation of varied individual assessments to include cognitive, social emotional and/or academic Procedures related to Special Education regulations
  • Expertise in facilitation of Special Education meetings to include Initials, Re-evaluations, Annuals, and Manifestation Determinations
  • Ability to facilitate/implement team decisions
  • Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job.
  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50lbs)
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of district data.
  • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications.
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel.
  • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
  • Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements.

DUTIES:

  • Case Management – scheduling IEP Meetings in a timely manner, providing consistent and timely notification to parents and staff, assisting in the identification of disabled students, facilitating IEP Meetings in an effective and professional manner, accurately maintaining student records, and demonstrating flexibility and professionalism in parental and staff contacts.
  • Diagnosis/Planning – selecting and administering appropriate tools for evaluation of students, effectively completing and summarizing evaluations, assisting in programming for students with disabilities, planning effective use of time, and effectively prioritizing and scheduling time to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Direct Service/Interventions – assisting in the development of appropriate annual goals and objectives, providing ongoing consultation to regular education and special education teachers, utilizing intervention methods appropriate for individual students and groups, using a variety of materials and individual strategies, using direct and community resources to meet student needs, communicating effectively with students, parents, and teachers, communicating students’ progress effectively, and providing service to parents when family crisis impacts student performance.
  • Professional Responsibility – participating in professional growth, accepting and fulfilling identified responsibilities and duties in a prompt and effective manner, being involved in resolution of staff and building issues in a positive manner, participating in and promoting district/school priorities, goals, and unity, participating in community interagency efforts and activities, serving as a resource person for in-service activities at both building and district levels, and recognizing problems and actively contributing to their resolution.
  • Rules Regulations – following Board policies and procedures, adhering to codes of ethics, following special education rules and regulations as established at federal, state, and local levels.
