Job Description

Job Type: Full time, Part time, Hourly

Wage: $28-$34/hr.

Location: Leadville, CO.

Job Description:

Assist the surgical team in the care of the patient in the operating room. Assist in preparing the room and patient for surgery. Functions as a scrub nurse during surgical procedures. Assists in the transfer of patients to the post anesthesia recovery area and in the turnover of the operating room. Clean and sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment according to prescribed procedures and techniques

Surgical Scrub Technician

· Accurately identifies and sets up equipment, instruments, and supplies necessary for each surgical procedure based on assessment of need using appropriate resources. Examples would be physician preference cards, departmental standards of care, and ACORN standards.

· Sets up and maintains a sterile field in preparation for surgical procedures and during the delivery of instruments, equipment and supplies to surgeon intraoperatively, by demonstrating competency in the principles for surgical procedures.

· Utilizes universal precautions appropriately. Endures appropriate safety measures taken for the patient, including but not limited to: accurate sponge, sharps, and instrument counts, handling of specimens, proper use/handling of implants; use of electrocautery; use of lasers, verification, labeling and handling of medications/ irrigation fluids and reports time and appropriate dosages/amounts of administration to circulator, proper and safe use of all electrical devices and equipment; appropriate positioning of patient, safe moving and transporting of patients, and safe and appropriate use of surgical instruments and equipment, etc.

· Anticipates physician, surgical team, and patient needs throughout procedure and adapts to changes quickly & effectively, including emergency responses.

· Identifies and immediately intervenes with the use of any malfunctioning equipment and promptly isolates and labels equipment and reports it to the appropriate person.

· Continuously update physician preference card; assists with and expedites room set up and clean up, assists with patient care activities and other duties as assigned.

· Sterilizes supplies and instruments using the prescribed method (e.g. steam, gas plasma (Sterrad).

· Operates washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure.

· Understands the basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department.

· Demonstrates knowledge of how items to be sterilized should be packaged in a manner that promotes successful sterilization

MINIMUM education requirements

· Graduated from an accredited program for Operating Room Technicians.

· Current BLS certification through AHA

· Sterile processing certification

MINIMUM work experience requirements

· 1-2 year’s experience as a scrub or surgical Technician preferred.

License/certifications

· Registered as a surgical tech by Colorado Division of Regulatory Agencies (DORA)

· Sterile Processing Certification CBSPD/CRCST

OTHER SKILLS

· Demonstrate good organizational skills

· Basic to advanced knowledge of the scrub role and responsibilities for all types of surgical procedures

· Communicate professionally with internal and external customers

· Working knowledge of interventional equipment (including C-Arm and Ultrasound equipment), procedures and materials/supplies needed for each procedure. Knowledge of sterile techniques

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
