Job Description

HRRMC's Surgery Department is seeking a full time Surgical Technician.  This position is schedule to work 32 hours/ week and may include weekends.  We are looking for a team member who is dedicated to exceptional patient care and a strong team player.  Previous OR experience is required.  This position is eligible for our full benefits package including employer matching retirement plans, vison, dental and health insurance, employee assistance program, on site employee gym and flex spending accounts.  This position is eligible for a $5000 sign on bonus.

Summary

Assists surgeons during operative and invasive procedures under the direct supervision of licensed nursing personnel. The OR Surgical Tech helps to plan, implement, and evaluate treatment of surgical patients by assuring operating room is adequately prepared with supplies and instrumentation for surgery, orders supplies and equipment as needed, and processes and maintains reusable and disposable supplies and equipment in accordance with regulatory, hospital and department guidelines and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. Assists the surgeons and nursing staff in the performance of surgical procedures.

2. Collaborates with all members of the surgical team for the benefit of the patient.

3. Demonstrates clinical competence in surgical technical skills, Sterile Processing, Endoscopy and Materials Management Departments.

4. Demonstrates a superior sterile conscience through understanding of principles of asepsis and consistently maintains sterile technique.

5. Communicates to the circulating RN and surgeons any breaks in technique.

6. Functions efficiently to insure that scheduled procedures begin and are completed in a timely manner.

7. Ensures all necessary equipment is in the room prior to the start of the case.

8. Demonstrates competency in safely operating all electro-surgical, diagnostic, video equipment, disposable equipment, as well as equipment unique to each specialty area.

9. Updates and rewrites preference cards as indicated. Communicates preference card additions to the appropriate specialty resource person.

10. Reports any equipment or instrument malfunctions immediately to the RN Circulator and RN Supervisor.

11. Handles all surgical specimens appropriately.

12. In conjunction with the RN, conducts accurate sponge, needle and instrument counts according to departmental policies.

13. Able to troubleshoot all equipment as necessary for the procedure.

14. Demonstrates proper care and handling of instruments and equipment in all areas of the department.

15. Rotates to other areas of surgical services as requested such as Sterile Processing and Endoscopy.

16. Ensures availability of surgical supplies and equipment in the OR. Performs all inventory and restocking as PAR levels indicate. Completes computer order entry.

17. Performs all outdates checks of supplies on a monthly basis and case cart pulling for the next day’s procedure.

18. Assists with operative team room turnover

19. Maintains a clean, safe and orderly environment.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Graduation from a formal accredited surgical technician training program preferred or trained in-house.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must maintain current CPR certification.
  • Certification as OR Surgical Technician is preferred. 

VACCINATION EXEMPTIONS ACCEPTED

$3000.00 SIGN ON BONUS
