Job Description:
Summer Patrol Level 1 will perform the core functions of Patrol by adhering to professional patrol industry standards and provide effective care and transport of injured, sick, and lost guests. They will patrol the mountain for our guests’ safety and biking enjoyment and maintain good public relations. Patrol Level 1 will demonstrate autonomous competence in performance on basic and lower risk assignments and will demonstrate competent performance in all critical and high-risk assignments while working under the supervision of Level 2 Patroller or greater, or as part of a Patrol team. Level 1 Patrollers will consistently follow all Powderhorn Mountain Resort policies and procedures, all applicable laws (federal, state, and local), and all health and sanitation codes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Patrol Level 1 will be expected to proficiently demonstrate the skills required of Patrol Trainee’s, with the additional duties to include, but not limited to.
- Demonstrate an Understanding of Mountain Logistics from a Patrol perspective
- Show proficiency in radio protocols and etiquette. Demonstrate the ability to operate radios competently according to Powderhorn Patrol standards in all situations.
- Competently perform Patrol Dispatch functions in accordance with Powderhorn Patrol dispatch standards.
- Competently perform as a member of a lift evacuation team.
- Demonstrate competent performance in any sweep or trail check assignment without assistance.
- Show a comprehensive understanding of all Powderhorn Patrol First Aid Equipment
- Understand and competently participate in 1Risk.
- Understand First Aid Room (FAR) duties and demonstrate the ability to competently assist in FAR operations
- Willingness and Capability to function at any time during an assigned patrol shift as a Powderhorn Lift Operator as requested by Powderhorn Operations Management.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED
- Outdoor Emergency Care (120 hours)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
Experience:
- Successful completion of Patroller Trainee Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able and willing to perform all of the patrol job functions in any Powderhorn Resort terrain and in all conditions.
- Must be an Expert level Mountain biker capable of efficiently and safely riding all green and blue Powderhorn bike trails
- Must be able to efficiently and safely ride at least 80% of black and double black terrain while also able to quickly, efficiently, and safely walk with their bike for the remaining 20% of black/double-black bike trails
- Must be able to efficiently and safely operate a UTV/ATV for both utility and rescue purposes. Level 1 Patroller: green rated ATV/UTV roads/trails. Level 2 Patroller: blue rated UTV/ATV roads/trails. Level 3 Patroller: Black rated ATV/UTV roads/trails.
- Successful Completion of Powderhorn Bike Patrol Trainee Checklist
- Successful Completion of Youth Protection Training
- Compete 8 hours of rescue litter and extrication training/Mtn Bike Clinic C.E.’s per season
- Successful completion of Powderhorn Resort Lift Evacuation Training
- Complete rescue litter and extrication training, including maintenance and repair
- Complete FAR orientation
- Attendance and Completion of all required pre-season patrol training
- Attendance and completion of summer lift operation training
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is four days per week and may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
Mountain Environment:
- The primary physical environment in which this position works is outdoors with a high exposure level to seasonal weather, including cold, snow, wind, high sun exposure, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
- The degree of strenuous activity within the job is high. Lifting weights of 60 pounds throughout the day for routine tasks is common.
- Strenuous physical activity may include lifting heavy loads and walking, biking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment,
- Patrol work may require significant sustained cardiovascular output for long duration. To include multiple bouts of 30 minutes or more of strenuous extrication activity including moving of a loaded litter through precarious terrain in challenging unstable and off camber conditions, and through dense vegetation.
- Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting. Ultraviolet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing and eye protection to be worn.
- Helmets are worn at all times when skiing, snowboarding, biking, or driving snowmobiles/ATVs
