Paraprofessional Substitute


  • Full Day: $135.00
  • Half-Day: $67.50 

1-Year Colorado Substitute Authorization License

  • Full-Day: $135.00 for the first 20 days in the school year before December 1, then $155.00 per day after
  • Half-Day: $67.50
  • Long Term Rate: $155.00

A one-year substitute authorization requires you to hold a high school diploma or its equivalent and have a fingerprint-based criminal history check on file with CDE.

3-Year Colorado Substitute Authorization

  • Full-Day: $145.00 for the first 20 days in the school year before December 1, then $165.00 a day after
  • Half-Day: $72.50
  • Long Term Rate: $165.00 a day

A 3-year substitute authorization requires you to hold an earned bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university and have a fingerprint-based history on file with CDE.

5-Year Colorado Substitute Authorization License or Colorado Teaching License

  • Full-Day: $162.00 for the first 20 days in the school year before December 1, then $182.00 a day
  • Half-Day: $91.00
  • Long Term Rate: $182.00

A 5-year substitute authorization requires you to hold a current or expired Colorado teacher license/certificate or a current out-of-state teacher license/certificate and have a fingerprint-based background check on file with CDE.

Retired PreK-12 Public School Educators (Must have a 5-year Colorado Substitute Authorization License or Colorado Teaching License)

  • Full-Day: $190.00
  • Half-Day: $95.00
  • Long Term Rate: $210 a day

A 5-year substitute authorization requires you to hold a current or expired Colorado teacher license/certificate or a current out-of-state teacher license/certificate and have a fingerprint-based background check on file with CDE.

Compensation

More than 4 hours are paid as a full day and must be tracked through the Red Rover system.
Four hours or less is paid as a half day.
Long-term and hard-to-fill rates are established through HR.

  • The long-term rate begins on the 11th day in the same position, unless HR determines otherwise.
  • For hard-to-fill positions, HR may offer an additional $20.00 a day on a needs-based basis.
  • Substitutes earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. (HFWA)

  • Accrued Sick Leave
  • The district will pay a mileage fee of $15.00 per day for substituting for Guest Teachers who must drive from outside Fremont County.
  • Eligibility for a $300 stipend through the Colorado Department of Education. More Information

Education and Experience

  • Education: High School Diploma Required, Bachelor's Degree Preferred
  • Experience: 1-5 years in a school setting preferred
  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid Colorado Driver's License, Substitute Authorization, or Teaching License from CDE

Other Criteria

  • Criminal background check required for hire for paraprofessionals (a $40.00 fee for a background check is required)
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students, and the public
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak, and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities
  • Integrity, trust, and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision.
  • A competent understanding of technology to perform the job
  • A positive individual with neat and clean appearance; a pleasant, courteous demeanor
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Ability to perform light lifting and moving of product (up to 50 to 100 lbs)
  • Ability to drive if needed at another school
  • Safely performs duties per District policy and expectations
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district data
  • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts for the various district systems and applications
  • Reports of actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel
  • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology
  • Models the District's Mission and Belief Statements

Essential Duties of the Job

  • Follow lesson plans as left by the educator who is absent
  • Manage the classroom and keep students safe
  • Follow guidelines as shared in the Substitute Handbook
