  • Reports To: Head Custodian, Facilities Director, and/or Building Principal
  • Position Summary
  • The Substitute Custodian provides temporary custodial support in the absence of regularly assigned custodial staff. This position assists with maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly school environment by performing routine custodial duties in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other school facilities.
  • Substitute custodians are expected to follow district cleaning procedures, safety guidelines, and facility maintenance expectations while supporting the overall operations of district buildings and grounds.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Perform general custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning floors and surfaces.
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
    • Assist with trash and recycling removal throughout school facilities.
    • Assist with basic building maintenance tasks as directed.
    • Use approved cleaning chemicals and equipment in accordance with district safety procedures.
    • Assist with building setup and cleanup for school events or activities when needed.
    • Maintain a safe and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors.
    • Work cooperatively with building staff, district staff, students, and community members.
    • Follow all district safety procedures and facility protocols.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian, Facilities Director, or building administration.
  • Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • Experience in custodial care of buildings and grounds preferred.
    • Knowledge of chemicals and cleaning products used for custodial services.
    • Ability to establish positive working relationships with building staff, district staff, students, and community members.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
    • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Required Background Checks
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks including:
    • Criminal background screening and fingerprinting
    • Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check
    • Any additional screenings required by district policy
  • Physical Requirements
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
    • Ability to perform a variety of custodial tasks involving lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and digging.
    • Ability to lift and move equipment, supplies, and materials as required.
    • Ability to stand and move throughout school facilities for extended periods.

  • Terms of Employment
  • Substitute positions are temporary, on-call, and as-needed. Assignments are determined by district substitute needs and availability and do not guarantee regular hours, ongoing assignments, or continued employment. Typical assignments may vary depending on building needs.
  • Salary/Benefits
  • Compensation will be in accordance with the Fremont RE-2 Substitute Salary Schedule. Substitute employees are not eligible for district benefits.
