About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction's General Service Department is seeking candidates to take a proactive role in the weed abatement program. The position will perform mowing, weed cutting, and spraying of herbicide to control noxious weed growth on City-owned properties and along rights-of-way. When needed, this position will also assist with other duties as needed within the program.  

About Grand Junction General Service Streets Division:
The Streets Division is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 1,150 lane miles of streets. To accomplish this undertaking, a 12-year maintenance cycle is utilized to perform essential preventive maintenance measures to sustain a quality transportation infrastructure network. Duties

What You’ll Do: 

  • Perform a variety of duties in the Weed Abatement Operations on City properties and within City right-of-ways.
  • Apply herbicides safely and accurately and maintain records of chemicals used. 
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment including sprayers, trimmers, tractors, power and hand tools; and other specialized maintenance and vegetation control equipment.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and the public.
  • Maintain accurate records related to the area of assignment.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas; pick up and discard trash; maintain parking lots, walkways, and other facilities.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed. 

Qualifications

This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed. 

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Must be 18+ years of age.
  • Applicants must be able to successfully pass a drug screen, background check, and, if required for the specific position, a physical examination.
  • Hardworking, and highly motivated applicants able to work in all types of weather, including high temperatures in direct sunlight while standing, walking, and/or kneeling.
  • Ability to go from one task to another efficiently.
  • A team-oriented approach to work.
  • Consistent positive attitude and willingness to complete all types of tasks.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions and ability to do basic arithmetic.
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required but welcomed.
