We are hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher to join our amazing Education Team at The Phoenix Academy at Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center in Canon City, Colorado. In this role, you will be part of a team helping others

Compensation: $50,000 Annually Bonus (if applicable): $5,000

Special Teacher Education SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the school principal, the High School Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing students that have emotional and behavioral disabilities an instructional program based on each students individual education needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following).

  • Develop goals and objectives for multi-graded classes.
  • Implement Individual Education Programs (IEP) for all students.
  • Provide direct instruction and services to students.
  • Monitor students’ progress as it relates to established IEP’s.
  • Work as a member of a trans-disciplinary team for planning and implementing data based instructional programs.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans for each subject taught.
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnostic process for an individualized instructional program.
  • Maintain accurate reports, records and files on individual students.
  • Able to work with at-risk students with a variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties.
  • Able to handle and de-escalate out of control behavior.
  • Have the ability to work with acting out and disruptive students in a highly structured behavioral program.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Must hold or be eligible for appropriate educator licensure in the State of Colorado, endorsed as a Special Education Generalist / Specialist.
  • Experience teaching / working with at-risk adolescents in an educational environment.
  • Strong communication skills are necessary to collaborate with other team members and other professionals.
  • Must be highly organized and have knowledge and experience with IEP’s and special education laws.

Other Qualifications

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal clearances (State Police, Local, FBI, DCFS and National Sex Offender Registry clearances).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Successful completion of orientation training.
