Position Type: Full-time, 166 days per year

Location: Cañon City High School

Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the 166-day Teacher Salary Schedule and based on education and experience. Starting salary range $39,590 - $66,998 and a highly effective stipend of $3,000 for professional licensed staff. Salary range will be updated after spring bargaining

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

  • Current Colorado Teacher License, Special Education Generalist 5-21, or be eligible to apply
  • Bachelor Degree or higher
  • Understands and demonstrates classroom management/instructional strategies to support student achievement
  • Integrated Technology skills to support the content areas
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development
  • Knowledge of subject areas curriculum, and standards-based education
  • Knowledge of special education as applied to the needs of the students assigned to the teacher’s particular areas
  • Knowledge of the general organization and functions of a public school system
  • Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict with students, parents, and community groups
  • Effective organization and communication skills
  • Must be MANDT trained (training provided)

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teachers are held to high expectations for their performance to ensure the success of the individual and the District in serving students and the community. Teachers are held to the District’s Licensed Personnel Performance Evaluation System that consists of the State’s Quality Standards, elements, and performance indicators which point to fulfillment of the teaching responsibility. A teacher’s demonstrated effectiveness is based on the following standards:

  • Quality Standard I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.
  • Quality Standard II: Teachers establish a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
  • Quality Standard III: Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students
  • Quality Standard IV: Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.
