Job Type: Full time, Hourly

Wage: $24-$30/hr. 

Location: Canon City, CO.

Job Description

The Shop Truck mechanic will perform repairs to various over the road tractors, trailers, water trucks and tandem dump trucks used for heavy highway, pipeline, utility, and quarry application’s as well as field projects. Most repairs are performed in or at the maintenance facility, although flexibility remains to be able to make repairs in the field if the need arises.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Responsible for minor and major repair of equipment consisting of road tractors such as Kenworth’s, Peterbilt’s, Mack’s and several different types of trailers to include belly dumps, rock tubs, lowboys, and floats trailers, to include repairs of engines, transmissions, drive train, hydraulics, electrical, and A/C systems

· Perform all repairs in a safe productive, efficient and cost-effective manner

· Must possess personal tools required to effectively perform equipment repairs

· Will utilize on-line service publications for researching problems, identifying and ordering parts

· Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical schematics

· Perform general or routine welding repair

· Attend formal safety training and technical training seminars

· Will be required to periodically assist in maintenance functions involving heavy equipment and support equipment

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Successfully communicates verbally and in writing for necessary day-day operations and record keeping
  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrates effective teamwork skills
  • Capable of extended work hours and weekend work as well as working away from home for short periods of time

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certification from a diesel technology school is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Truck Mechanic
  • Excellent knowledge of engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical and AC systems.
  • On-road truck/ trailer repair experience preferred
  • Air Conditioning Certification desired
  • Good driving record.
  • CDL Class A or B is a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIROMENT:

· Must be able to work overtime as required by workload and company need

· Occasionally lift and carry 75# components from ground to chest height, and lift and carry 50# frequently

· Will be exposed to inside and outside weather conditions to include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, and working on uneven terrain

· May be exposed to fumes and airborne particles, toxic chemicals and vibration

· Move from standing to lying on creeper repeatedly

· Must be able to climb ladders

· Use hands to finger, handle or feel surfaces or objects

· Frequently required to stoop, bend, crouch, kneel and crawl

· Will frequently work with and around moving mechanical parts and equipment

· Acute vision abilities corrected or uncorrected for close, distance and color vision

· Noise levels are usually loud
