Description

Under general supervision, contribute and lead a team to perform any phase of mine design, mine planning or other support functions within appropriate time and cost.

  • Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
  • Lead projects and contribute mine planning expertise on large/complex site planning/construction and expansion or modifications for base metal and open-pit hard rock mine locations
  • Contribute to site strategic planning, scheduling, budgeting efforts using software such as MineSight, NPVS, Deswik or other scheduling and mine planning software
  • Conduct short and long range strategic mine planning to include cost determination, pit optimization, pit design, pit phasing, production scheduling, stockpile design, drilling pattern design, haulage analysis, equipment fleet requirements, pit slope stability and economic analysis
  • Develop and evaluate AFE’s (Authorization for Expenditure) for capital funding requests
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to front-line and/or technical employees
  • May supervise front-line and/or technical employees
  • Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • Represent the site on company sponsored events
  • Evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement and benchmark other operations for continuous improvement alternatives
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Mine Engineering discipline or related Engineering discipline and five (5) years of related experience in Engineering or a related field, OR
  • Master's degree in Mine Engineering or related engineering discipline and three (3) years of related experience in Engineering or related field Hands-on experience within the last five (5) years using the principles and practices of Mine Engineering with at least two (2) typical mine functions (long or short-range planning, ore control, dispatch, Geomechanical control, project management or supervision)
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Mine Engineering
  • Proficient in current Mine Engineering software (Mine Planning, Dispatch, etc.)
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Conduct a financial, economic, and cost analysis
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work may be located at a mine site or work location on a permanent assignment, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

Compensation:

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $94,000-$132,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
