Job Description:

Salida Montessori Charter School is seeking a Co-Teacher to teach collaboratively with a Lead Montessori Teacher in the 7th-8th grade classroom. Must be comfortable teaching and/ or supporting students across all subject areas. This is a Full-Time position working in a classroom with 1st-3rd grade students. The school year runs from early August until late May, operating on a 4-day school week, Mondays-Thursdays. Job Description

  • Assisting in setting up a beautiful, functional workspace for the student.
  • Assisting in maintaining an authentic Montessori culture of learning.
  • Assisting in maintaining the classroom expectations.
  • Assisting the conflict resolution process, communicating to the co-guide when students need help in a conflict resolution, and guiding children through conflicts.
  • Serving as a partner to the co-lead.
  • Preparing and presenting non-Montessori lessons/projects, as agreed on with the co-guide.
  • Completing tasks with the co-lead (administrative, clean-up, classroom management, etc).
  • Assisting with assignment creation, grading, and checking of work plans.
  • Assisting with progress reports and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Assisting with organizing/implementing all Secondary big trips and events.

Primary Tasks During Classroom Time (50%)

  • Participating in circle time/class meetings.
  • Running interference for the co-lead while lessons are being given (answering questions, redirecting children who are wandering/disruptive, etc).
  • Moving through the classroom regularly to monitor the activity of the students.
  • Alerting the co-lead when a conflict has arisen in the classroom or on the playground (even if it seems to be resolved).
  • Running the classroom when the co-lead is in conflict resolution conversations or otherwise engaged, including independently overseeing transition periods.
  • Assisting with/overseeing clean-up at the end of the work cycles.
  • Regularly assisting in cleaning the classroom before or after school (in addition to the student’s cleaning).
  • Answering parent inquiries.
  • Communicating with parents during drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Record and track lessons given.
  • Checking and grading student work throughout the week.
  • Performing administrative tasks (making copies, taking attendance, organizing field trips, record keeping, etc.).

Secondary Tasks During Non-Classroom Time (50%)

  • Assisting the Title 1 lead teacher in supporting students in grades 7-8 with math and language.
  • Assisting teachers in development of outdoor education ideas.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the Montessori philosophy.
  • Montessori Training from an Accredited Program and / or Colorado State Certified Teacher.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Commitment to building long-term relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Desire to learn and grow as a teacher; openness to feedback, collaboration, and compromise.
  • Experience working with students.
  • Preferred: 3+ years’ experience.
  • Effective communication skills with adults and children.
  • Understanding of basic principles of childhood development.
  • Familiarity with educational software and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Certification in first aid and CPR, or willingness to complete certification.
