Job Description
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Public Works, the Operator I should be able to perform skilled labor and operation of heavy equipment. This position performs duties that are semiskilled for the maintenance of streets, drainage, and bridges though out Lake County. There are two openings for the Operator I position.
General Duties and Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
Essential Functions:
- Operates trucks and equipment of various sizes and weights, in loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
- Operation of trucks, graders, snowplows, backhoes, and tractors during the winter months to keep roadways cleared during winter months.
- Salting of roads when appropriate during winter months in accordance with director’s discretion.
- Assists with digging of trenches, grading of roads, and assistance with projects when directed by supervisor.
- Performs duties in accordance with safety policies and procedures daily.
- Ability to communicate to mechanics about equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Performs daily inspections of equipment, keeps equipment clean, and regularly schedules maintenance of heavy equipment.
- Advancement to this job title employee must have displayed some initiative to supervisors that they are able to perform more tasks, additional duties, and supervisory skills.

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners.

Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- A clean driving record, CDL valid driver’s license.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and customer service protocol with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Meet physical requirements established by Department of Transportation, and pass drug and alcohol screening.
- Preferred proficient in English and Spanish.
