Job Description:

HRRMC's Surgery Department has a Full Time ( 32 hours/ week) opening for a RN to work in Same Day Surgery.  This position is eligible for our full benefits package including: medical, dental and vision insurance, employer matching retirement plans, paid time off accruals, employee gym, and  flex spending account.  On call rotation will be required. 

SCOPE STATEMENT:

Responsible for preoperative assessment (evaluate current physical and mental health) of patients who are scheduled for planned (non-emergency) surgery. Coordinates pre-operative care between the patient, primary care provider, surgeon’s office and with other ancillary departments. Applies nursing process in the provision and delegation of patient care.

Offers for employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a negative drug screen test*, criminal background check, reference checks, infection prevention procedures, TB test, Flu Shot, and acknowledgement of policies.

Salary Range for this position is based on years of experiences and ranges from $34.27 to $41.49 per hour. An 8% pay differential will be granted.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY.

1. Conducts patient pre-operative assessment by obtaining a detailed past and current medical history using a preadmissions form to guide the gathering of perioperative information.

2. Obtains information regarding blood pressure, height, weight, body mass index, and completion of blood tests, ECGs, etc.

3. Identifies patients at risks (multiple co-morbidities) and collaborates with anesthesia to review patient medical documents and interview patients as appropriate.

4. Uses the Surgical Risk Calculator to determine the surgical risks. Shares and collaborates the information derived from the Surgical Risk Calculator with anesthesia and surgeon to assist in surgical decisions.

5. Advise patients on their pre-operative medication requirements, time and location to report for the day of surgery.

6. Directly provides patient care while delegating to unlicensed personnel appropriate tasks when requested (ie YAGS).

7. Considers the holistic needs of the patient and family. Collaborates with surgeon and anesthesia provider to coordinate the patient's care.

8. Assists the Nurse Manager and the Supervisor to proactively solve problems affecting patient care.

4. Must have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities; demonstrate resourcefulness and good problem-solving skills.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Bachelors (BSN) is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must maintain current, active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado.
  • Must maintain current CPR certification.
  • Must maintain current ACLS certification.
  • Must maintain current PALS
