Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center has a full-time opening for a Clinics Nurse Supervisor . This position will be full-time (40 hrs/week) and will supervise seven clinics. As a supervisor, responsibility is confined to a defined area of the organization. This role is for leadership development and mentoring and assumes responsibility for the overall function of the department in the absence of the manager. The employee in this role demonstrates expertise and is able to handle multiple priorities. Responsible for coordination and execution of staff education and functions as a role model for current and new staff. Utilizes problem solving techniques to prevent conflict and promote team development. Leads other personnel in the provision of duties and maintains a calm and safe environment for customers and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

a. Provides direct supervision of nursing/MA staff for assigned practices ensuring compliance with policy and procedures as well as regulatory, TJC, and nurse practice act.

b. Ensures that processes are in place, tools are being utilized, and nursing staff are returning patient phone calls the same day as well as tracking orders and working with providers to convey results to patients within 48 business hours of receiving them, communicating promptly with patient about any delays in receiving results.

c. Works with assigned practices to ensure that the referral loop is being closed on 100% of referrals.

d. Ensures that each clinic has a daily huddle in which they review the daily patient schedule – identifying and troubleshooting any scheduling snafus or problem patients, review the services ordered log and results tracking as well as communicating any other important information for the day.

e. Monitors and addresses any short comings with respect to quality payment measures, ensuring these are completed at the highest frequency possible.

f. Completes / assigns, verifies that quality checks, refrigerator checks/logs, and safety sweeps are conducted and documented per policy. g. Ensures that all drugs are secured correctly and that expired medications and other supplies are disposed of according to policy.

h. Responsible for stocking medical supplies in each clinic; maintains a par level per policy to make certain that critical supplies are readily available.

i. Monitors/logs all surgical instruments sent to central sterile for cleaning and disinfecting per policy and that they are returned and available for use by providers in clinic when needed.

j. Is directly responsible to ensure a proper time out occurs in assigned clinics prior to any patient procedure being performed.

k. Monitors each clinic to ensure sharps and medical waste are disposed of per policy and that infection control processes are in place per policy.

l. Works with front office/registration staff ensuring that providers’ patient scheduling templates are set up correctly, that registration staff appoint patients accordingly, and that there is good communication with the providers regarding their wait times for both new and established patients; ensures that each provider has urgent patient slots available and educates registration staff on how to utilize these.

m. Takes ownership for the customer service provided across assigned practices as well as with registration staff; alerts a manager and/or the Director of Clinics Services to any customer service issues; assists with patient concerns, resolving them on the spot whenever possible. Assists patients in using the grievance process if unable to resolve the issue at the clinics level.

n. At the direction of the Clinics Nurse Manager or Director of Clinics Services, participates in certain workgroups and committees, particularly with respect to issues related to nursing process, but may also serve on non-clinical / non-nursing workgroups.

o. Ensures that each practice utilizes approved forms and that patients sign consents and responsibility for treatment.

p. Is an expert in the clinics EHR, serves as a super user for provider practices and provides training and remedial training to assigned staff as needed.

q. May fill in for clinic nurses in times of shortage, but the primary role is to support the nursing staff with supervision, mentoring, team building, competency, and efficiency.

r. May be called on to assist practice or registration staff with difficult customers/patients, engaging assistance from supervisor or others as needed.

s. Organizes, sets the agenda, and leads clinics practice meetings.

t. Communicates any concerns or issues directly with their provider whenever possible or consults immediately with their manager or director and does not wait to be rounded on to share concerns.

u. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • AA Degree in Nursing required
  • BSN preferred
  • Experience in a similar clinic setting preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must maintain current active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado
  • BLS
