Job Description:

The Housing Manager (HM) position at Trinidad State College (TSC)is a full-time (12month), live-in professional position that carries responsibility for supporting and administering the residence life program. The HM works to establish goals and objectives with the Housing Director. The HM is expected to implement campus and institutional initiatives consistent with the mission of the College. Night, evening and weekend hours are required. This position reports to the Housing Director. The position requires enthusiasm, a strong work ethic and initiative while working collaboratively with others in the department and the college. TSC requires the HM to live on campus in a designated residence hall. Human Resources must complete a background check on the selected candidate and spouse(if applicable).You must have or be able obtain a Colorado Drivers’ License.


Examples of Duties

  • Support, input and maintenance of residence hall data
  • Maintain accurate data in the banner student information system for student location assignments, occupancy reports and resident records
  • Update and recommend changes to the Residence Hall Handbook to the Housing Director, and VP of Student Affairs
  • Update and recommend changes to the Housing Director regarding the TSC website related to housing at TSC
  • Refer and report Code of Conduct issues to the Student Conduct Officer and the reporting system
  • Maintain daily office hours and offer a high degree of availability and visibility for all residents and staff members
  • Communicate regularly with the Housing Director regarding student accounts, building issues, student staffing, billing, fining and related information in a timely manner
  • Report maintenance problems to the supervisor and facilities as soon as possible
  • Promote and enforce a safe and secure environment within residence halls and TSC campuses
  • Participate in ongoing on-call rotation in residence halls
  • In the absence of the Housing Director, assume responsibilities to ensure leadership, continuity and support for residence halls and other institutional responsibilities as appropriate
  • Develop relationships with residents to help them be successful at TSC
  • Lead hall meetings, small group meetings and postings with supervisor, staff, student, staff and residents as requested
  • Train and supervise student staff as needed
  • Act as an initial contact, referral agent and follow up for students in crisis as appropriate
  • Be available for listening, advising and support residents with difficult situations while recognizing personal and positional limitations
  • Manage confidential information from students and meet mandatory reporting requirements
  • Attend, support and promote Student Activities. HM will work closely with the Student Life Coordinator to provide staff support and supervision to student activities. Throughout the academic year, this may include but is not limited to scheduling, promoting, organizing and implementing activities and student government events
  • Schedule and coordinate work-study staff for the Student Center. Supervise time sheets and work schedules for center and ensure the student center is always set to welcome and support students
  • Create and promote a caring atmosphere conducive to academic pursuits and to the personal development of students
  • Attend regular staff meetings as requested by the supervisor
  • Update and participate in consistent communication with supervisor
  • Participate in staff training for all residence hall personnel
  • Assist with staff training, student staff selection, department wide and divisional programming, move-in/move-out, etc.
  • Assist and participate in the Campus Security Authority Training for all housing CSA’s
  • Support larger college initiatives(Orientation, Student Life and College Programming, Student Affairs, etc.)
  • Support Student Services with other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or direct experience and education working with students in a residential setting
  • Experience working in higher education residence halls. This may be substituted for experience managing a housing or residential complex
  • Experience training student workers
  • Experience with crisis response
  • Experience working with a diverse population
NECESSARYSPECIALREQUIREMENTS:
  • The successful candidate must submit to and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check.
  • Housing Manager must be able to live on campus, work frequent evening and weekend hours, and maintain a Colorado driver’s license. 
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment, but overseeing the College’s housing operations program and fulfilling duty responsibilities requires being able to navigate between residential facilities, including up and down stairs, moving through long hallways, being in buildings without air conditioning, and being outside in various weather conditions. Must also be able to lift boxes of items up to 30 pounds, move tables, chairs, and other furniture. Requires a valid driver’s license and ability to meet campus requirements to drive campus vehicles, in order to transport students and other items. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, including times when the College is closed; this includes the ability to travel and work during inclement weather or other exceptional conditions
