Homeless Street Outreach Program Director

Job Summary

The Street Outreach Program Director will help create a robust street outreach program that will include organizing, advocacy, education, and street outreach. The Street Outreach Coordinator will develop and implement program goals as expected from funding sources and organizational governance. Further, this position is responsible for maintaining all data including program metrics and client statistics.

The Street Outreach Program Director will assist Street Outreach Teams by helping to eliminate barriers for clients and will ensure that people experiencing homelessness are given immediate and person-centered care to address their homelessness crisis. The coordinator will work with other community partners to ensure that people are supported throughout the entire outreach process.

The Street Outreach Program Director will work closely with merchants in our coverage area to serve as a liaison between people experiencing homelessness and merchants. Responsibilities would include education, assisting merchants when they have difficult encounters with someone experiencing homelessness, and relationship building.

  • Lead in being a heartfelt team member of Loaves and Fishes Ministries.

  • Assist in communicating our mission and core values in word and deed inside and outside of the program.
  • Help plan program events such as fundraisers, graduations, and other special events.

· Conducts street outreach to homeless populations.

· Conduct outreach in community-based resource centers such as libraries, parks, churches, etc.

· Completes housing assessments with individuals experiencing homelessness.

· Make referrals or initiate services to address mental health, substance use disorder, disability and housing issues when applicable.

· Facilitate the monthly Street Outreach Collaborative.

· Ability to work with people of all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds; be flexible, open-minded, and adaptable to change.

· Maintains a current working knowledge of social services available in the local community.

· Design, write, and coordinate the preparation of informational materials, brochures, pamphlets, invitations and correspondence for distribution within the city and to other related external businesses and governmental agencies.

· Communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively with other city employees, officials, and the public.

· Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with community partners and work together to identify and improve processes that enhance services and outcomes for clients.

· Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the program and clients and to be responsive to changing environmental conditions which may impact those experiencing homelessness.

· Demonstrate knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or other similar programs to safely engage individuals who may be mentally ill, abusing substances or otherwise confused, aggressive or hostile.

· Enter data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).

· Participate in the various Built for Zero committees and Fremont County Homeless Coalition.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Ability to be flexible and empathetic

· Self-starter and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

· Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or those with multiple barriers to living independently and self-sufficiently

· Proficiency with Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

· Possess good written and oral communication skills
