Job Description
The Planning Director, under the direction of the Town Administrator, provides direction, leadership, and general oversight of the Town’s planning and development functions, understanding that Buena Vista is its own unique community, with its own disparate social and political dynamics. Other responsibilities will include a variety of supervisory, technical, and administrative tasks such as planning, budgeting, coordinating, and directing overall operations within the Planning Department. The Planning Director will be a member of the Town’s leadership team and will work alongside other professionals who are passionate about the community.
- Experience Required: 5 years in both long range and development review in planning or a planning related field.
- Starting Salary Range: $89,000 - $107,000 annually plus benefits. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(a), 457(b), vacation leave, sick leave and paid holidays.

The Town of Buena Vista (pop. 3,000) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Planning Director. Located in the Upper Arkansas River Valley in the central mountains of Colorado, Buena Vista is known for its recreational amenities, beautiful views, historic character, and working-class roots. More recently it has attracted the attention of second homeowners, early retirees, telecommuters, artisans, entrepreneurs, and others drawn to the quality of life that the community offers.
