If an applicant does not hold a certification in good standing as a pharmacy technician from a certifying organization, the Board may issue a provisional certification, during which time the applicant may obtain such certification. Provisional certification is valid for no more than 18-months unless extended by the Board due to hardship
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a negative drug screen test*, criminal background check, reference checks, infection prevention procedures, TB test, Flu Shot, immunization records, and acknowledgement of policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
Inpatient Pharmacy Duties
a. Pharmacy Buying
• Purchases supplies required to dispense prescriptions (labels, bottles, bags and other custom printed items)
• Purchases office and clerical supplies
• Pharmaceutical Inventory
• Maintains inventory to provide adequate inventory based on demand
• Identifies drugs or supplies that appear to be stocked in excess and communicates with the lead outpatient pharmacy technician or pharmacist
• Checks inventory as assigned observing expiration dates of drugs, and removes outdated inventory as appropriate.
• Places drugs in proper location and rotates stock
• Orders medications per the infusion schedule to ensure patient rescheduling and delays are minimized
• Orders and fulfills purchase requisitions from other HRRMC departments and community health providers through casual sales
• Notifies pharmacy director of supply chain disruptions
b. Direct dispensing
• Accurately selects the correct drug and dispenses the correct quantity when preparing medications.
c. Demonstrates reasonable knowledge of and complies with regulations governing the practice of pharmacy
d. Exhibits knowledge of pharmacy calculations, expected drug knowledge
e. Automated dispensing cabinet (ADM) restocking and inventory management
• Fills ADMs per refill reports and as needed
• Analyzes daily discrepancy reports and notifies leadership of any discrepancies that cannot be cleared
• Removes expired stock from ADMs
• Contacts technical support to resolve ADM issues
f. Medication carts and kit refilling and management
• Emergency carts are maintained with in-date medications
• Patient care area kits are stocked for caseloads as defined by end users
• Posts charges for medications used from any and all kits
g. Sterile compounding of non-hazardous and hazardous medication
• Completes sterile compounding competencies
• Utilize DoseEdge for sterile compounding
• Analyze the daily IV run to minimize delays and nurse prepared admixtures
• Accurately performs non-hazardous and hazardous sterile compounding
h. Properly document dispensing activities as required by pharmacy policies, local, state and federal regulations
i. Clerical Duties
• Promptly answers the phone and greets colleagues in a friendly and courteous manner
• Files and maintains daily reports that document technician and pharmacy operations
• Maintain infusion patients’ charts with current orders placed in the infusion order folder by scheduling
• Compiles month end reporting and inventory data
• Inventory reports
• Waste reports
• Revenue reports
• Interdepartmental transfers
• Casual sale records
j. Inventory management
• Prepares and participates in regular inventories at the direction of the Pharmacy Director and/or lead inpatient pharmacy technician
• Create and process returns of medications that are no longer needed
• Utilizes exchange and replacement programs for high-cost-specialty medications
