HRRMC's Patient Financial Services Department has a full time Patient Financial Counselor position available working 40 hrs/ week: Monday - Friday 8am to 4:00 pm. Primary responsibility is to resolve estimated and/or determined patient balances due for scheduled and/or completed services billed by HRRMC using insurance verification and Patient Estimator systems, and notification from registration staff. Works daily reports. Contact patients and discuss resolution of balances due and available resources including payment in full with self- pay discount if applicable, a payment plan that complies with the policy, possible qualification for Medicaid or other State and/or government programs, other possible liable parties and/or financial assistance/charity discount.
Must have 2 years Financial Counseling, Customer Service or Hospital Billing expereince to be eligible to work remote
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a negative drug screen test*, criminal background check, reference checks, infection prevention procedures, TB test, Flu Shot, immunization records, and acknowledgement of policies.
Job Duties to include :
1. Applies effective problem solving and negotiation skills while working with patients, independently and as a team member.
2. Proficient in CPSI and Aprima registration, billing and collection functions.
3. Meets with patients, if needed in their room and/or in the Emergency Department, to discuss payment options and resources for current and/or previous balances.
4. Completes monthly reports for both CPSI and APRIMA to contact patients to resolve outstanding balances.
5. Generates patient estimator letters and contacts “patients scheduled for services, to discuss payment of amount due.
6. Determines all resources for resolution of patient responsibility.
7. Works with patient to complete required paperwork necessary for possible state and/or government assistance
- a. If payment is made at time of service applicable self- pay discount is initiated –required adjustment form is completed and forwarded.
- b. If payment plan is established, appropriate payment agreement is initiated, signed and updated appropriately in systems.
- c. Review all completed documents for possible submission to Medicaid, CICP, and/or Charity.
8. Receives patient phones calls, assisting with questions and/or concerns regarding statements received and/or services provided.
9. Reviews unpaid accounts and confirms application of all collection policies to recommend readiness for referral to outside collection agency. .
10. Compiles “Bad Debt” report and/or file of approved collection accounts and forwards to outside collection agency.
