Department/Division Purpose:

The mission of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department at Pueblo Community College is to provide each student with the ability to be competent entry level EMS professionals. The EMS department of Pueblo Community College strives to provide emergency medical learning experiences that respect the diversity of our students.

Job Summary Statement:

This position specifically exists to provide classroom, laboratory, or related instruction under the supervision of the Department Chair and is responsible for planning and providing student instruction in accordance with approved syllabi, curriculum guidelines, and required program standards. Instructor must adhere to the laws, policies, procedures, rules, and applications which govern and affect the college, including the fiscal rules of the State of Colorado.

Absences will be minimal and only for appropriate cause; notification of Department Chair is required. Instructor must work with the Faculty Chair to provide coverage or obtain approval for class cancelation according to PCC policy. Refer to PCC Operational Procedures and Protocols for further information.

Instructors are expected to model professionalism in dress, action, and communication. Accordingly, instructors are obliged to respond professionally to constructive feedback and to follow the chain of command in resolving conflicts.

Job Duties Essential Functions:

  • Teaches courses as assigned within instructor work load guidelines and meets all scheduled classes unless the class has been canceled or with the permission of the Chairperson.
  • May attend scheduled department, division, or college meetings.
  • May be offered opportunity to serve as a substitute within the program for absent colleagues for short-term absences as determined by Department Chair, Coordinator, or Dean.
  • Maintains a work schedule as agreed upon by the supervisor and in concert with the state and instructor workload policy. - 80%
  • Provides adequate preparation of the course material for all assigned courses.- 15%
  • Supervises and enforces appropriate safety procedures. - 1%

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of the approved program curriculum and syllabi and participates in cooperative planning with colleagues. - 1%
  • Participates, as appropriate, in college-wide assessment of student learning activities and/or projects. - 1%
  • Assists, as appropriate, in program reviews and evaluation process required by internal/external sources. - 1%
  • May attend all regularly scheduled department, division, and college meetings/trainings, or as required by contract or Chair, unless these meetings conflict with a scheduled class or unless the instructor is excused by the chair/supervisor or Dean. - 1%

Minimum Qualifications & Education: N/A

Licenses or Certifications:

  • EMT, EMT-I or paramedic in the state of Colorado
  • Eligible for Colorado Vocational Teaching Credential

Experience: One year of occupational experience in EMS.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities: N/A

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree

Licenses or Certifications: Colorado Vocational Teaching Credential

Experience:

  • Teaching at an institute of higher education
  • Utilization of an online Learning Management System (D2L, Blackboard, Compass, etc.)
  • Four years of occupational experience in EMS.
  • Experience in teaching either in the college setting or in an EMS agency.
