SUMMARY: The Park Maintenance Tech I is responsible for performing entry level maintenance duties of parks, trails, and recreational facilities.

  • Salary Range: $46,509 - $62,787 DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility Maintenance

  • Perform a variety of maintenance activities including indoor and outdoor facilities maintenance
  • Perform basic carpentry and painting tasks, identify and complete routine repairs
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment in all parks
  • Maintain indoor Town Park building facilities; performs janitorial and custodial tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and trash removal
  • Performs indoor ice rink maintenance in the winter
  • Perform outdoor winter activities maintenance, including Nordic track grooming, outdoor ice rink maintenance, plowing snow on Town Park parking lot and roadways
  • Perform athletic field maintenance utilizing basic math skills to ensure proper layout/measurements
  • Maintain and stock dog waste bag dispensers
  • Maintain various gardens and planting beds in Town parks, along trails, and on municipal grounds; prunes and removes trees, shrubs, and bushes as needed
  • Maintains the greenscape areas in Town
  • Maintains Town Park trails
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned

Equipment and Vehicle Operation

  • Operate a variety of equipment such as: push and riding mowers, string trimmers, aerators; blowers, edgers, sprayers, skid steers, backhoes, snowmobiles; Zamboni Ice Resurfacer; small loaders, trucks, tractors, and trailers
  • Operate small power equipment such as saws, drills, drain snakes, and other equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and make minor repairs or adjustments

Safety

  • Demonstrate compliance with all Town and P&R Department safety procedures, regulations, and policies
  • Work safely to prevent accidents

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications):

Valid driver’s license; High school diploma or equivalent; six (6) months to one (1) year of previous maintenance experience required; first aid, AED and CPR certification, or ability to gain within the first six (6) months.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of: operation and maintenance of parks and facilities; operation and maintenance of tools and equipment used for parks and facility maintenance; technical troubleshooting; basic horticulture; basic carpentry and repairs; Microsoft Office programs; Telluride Parks and Recreation facilities, procedures, activities, and programming.

Skill in: effective communication (verbal and written); problem solving; customer service, time management, multi-tasking; organization; attention to detail; work collaboratively and independently without supervision; positive interpersonal and public relations; critical thinking; flexibility; prioritization; conflict resolution; decision making; maintaining composure in stressful situations.

Environmental Factors:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Work performed indoors is sometimes subject to confined spaces, heights, hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, high noise levels, dust and air particles, and chemicals. Work performed outdoors is subject to adverse weather conditions. This position may include evening, weekends and holiday work.

Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to sit for extended periods of time; stand or walk occasionally with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; working on irregular surfaces; and may occasionally be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
