Job Description
This full time faculty position will begin in January 2023 (preferred) or August 2023 (possible) with a 30 credit hour (170 day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Avalanche Science, Ski Area Operations, and/or Outdoor Recreation Leadership. Our primary instructional needs are in the areas of Avalanche Science and Ski Area Operations; however, applicants who are qualified to teach in more than one area, including Outdoor Recreation Leadership, may be given preference. Responsibilities include teaching both classroom- and field-based courses at the 1000 to level in snow-related disciplines to potentially including Avalanche Pro 1 Pro content, snow science, recreational avalanche courses, ski area operations, ski patrol, ski/snowboard guiding, risk management, ski resort slope maintenance, and whitewater or rock climbing disciplines, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include: teaching courses as assigned, evaluating course and assessing student learning, meeting established course, program and learning outcomes, complying with guidelines and policies, maintaining office hours per established standards, developing rapport with students, assisting with and participating in advising, orientation and registration activities.
This position would receive up to 9 credits of reassignment time to serve as Program Chair for either Avalanche Science or Ski Area Operations, depending on qualifications. Program Chair responsibilities would include ensuring that offerings of the program articulate with CMC’s mission, vision, strategic plan and institutional learning outcomes as well as state and national standards; handling budget, coordinator of program accreditation applications/renewals and program activity reporting, leading program advisory committee meetings, outreach, marketing recruiting activities, student application review and acceptance decisions (where applicable), and program assessment. In conjunction with the Program Director and School Dean, the Program Chair assists in the hiring, credentialing, and evaluation for part-time and/or adjunct program faculty.
CMC Faculty are expected to engage in service activities such as campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentor peers, participate in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.

Requirements:
Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:
A minimum of an Associate degree with a minimum of 4,000 hours of industry experience in the discipline or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2,000 hours of industry experience in the discipline. Minimum of one-year teaching experience or equivalent (full-time or accumulated) Both formal and non-formal teaching experience will be considered.
Must be current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certified or higher medical certifications.
Examples of preferred industry certifications include: American Avalanche Association Pro 1 and/or Pro Lead Trainer, National Ski Patrol OEC Instructor, American Mountain Guides Association Ski Guide, Single Pitch Instructor, etc.

Working Conditions: This position requires frequent sitting; frequent standing, walking and driving; occasional climbing, balancing, hiking, skiing/snowboarding, stooping, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, reaching with hands/arms, and frequent finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. and occasionally a backpack weighing up to ½ body weight; ordinary talking, hearing, and vision capabilities; constant reading/comprehending, writing, performing calculations, communicating orally, and reasoning/analyzing; occasional work in high, precarious places, and exposure to fumes or airborne particles and/or toxic or caustic chemicals; and frequent exposure to harsh, high alpine outdoor weather conditions in all seasons. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily; rope, ladders, backcountry skis/snowboards, snow machines, and a vehicle (including a high occupancy van) occasionally.
