Overview

What You'll Be Doing...

The Area Operations Manager is responsible for the leadership, development and management of the operational functions in the Canon City market area. The Area Operations Manager will ensure adequate staffing and oversee safe production to enable plant productivity and maintenance in an efficient manner, while delivering quality products to clients. The Area Operations Manager will be the liaison to all support service groups; Environment, Land, Manufacturing, Human Resources and Safety. The primary focus will be on safety delivering quality products while maximizing productivity at the lowest cost of production.

Responsibilities

Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through leadership by example.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and country regulations Implementation and management of all safety initiatives
  • Maintain safety processes and procedures up to date
  • Financial Management:
  • Promotes a culture of performance and exceeding expected results.
  • Drive and track financial performance via annual operations budgets and monthly operations forecast.
  • Reviewing costs on a month end review, ensure all costs are accounted for and are accurate.
  • Participate in monthly inventory, sales & amp; production planning.
  • Effectively develops goals and objectives to implement actions, track performance and continuously look for opportunities for improvement
  • Support supply chain with balancing inventory and sales needs to manage and minimize working capital impact

Topline and Customer Focus:

  • Works with all business units to drive customer retention and attraction
  • Drive quality for customer retention.
  • Seek opportunities to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Ensures a quality product within specifications and timely delivery to clients, actively works to resolve any issues.

Operations Management:

  • Works closely with construction team to develop best practices, processes and to ensure activities are optimized and costs are best in class.
  • Actively involved on a daily basis with crews, operations to work together as one team.
  • Implement and follow best practices for maintenance, production and shipping processes and strategies to achieve target key performance indicators (KPI)

Environment, Land and Community Relations:

  • Run site operations in a way to have minimal negative impact on the surrounding environment and communities
  • Implement and manage operational standards to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact
  • Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with the local communities to ensure Holcim is seen as a partner in environmental stewardship
  • Work with local regulatory bodies to comply with bylaws

People Management:

  • Provides leadership for operations staff located at multiple sites by working closely with construction staff
  • Follows and promotes the Holcim HR business cycle (Annual performance review, Annual Objective setting, Individual Development Plans, Mid-Year Reviews, Career and Succession Planning.)

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

This position works closely with Sales, Operations, Distribution, Procurement, outside vendors, and contractors.

Qualifications

What We Want…

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred or a combination of education and experience.

Experience and Skill Set:

  • Must possess a well-rounded background in civil construction management with >10 years’ experience.
  • Good knowledge of construction industry
  • Proven team leadership in a multi-site operation
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must be able to analyze financial statements and make recommendations
  • Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
  • Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture
