Job Description

Join our vibrant team at Powderhorn Mountain Resort as a Ski Lift Operator! In this pivotal role, you’ll be the face of our resort, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our ski lifts while creating a welcoming atmosphere for our guests to enjoy the mountain environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Lift Operations: Operate and monitor ski lifts to ensure a smooth and safe transportation experience for all guests.
  • Safety Commitment: Conduct pre-operation safety checks of lift machinery, swiftly addressing any concerns to uphold the highest safety standards.
  • Guest Interaction: Provide friendly and courteous assistance, helping guests with loading and unloading, answering questions, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with fellow operators and ski patrol to monitor lift operations and respond effectively to any incidents.
  • Maintain and operational log as required in 4.3.5.1
  • Emergency Preparedness: Be ready to implement emergency procedures and provide support during unexpected situations.
  • Team Spirit: Collaborate with other team members to foster a positive environment and enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Advise the supervisor of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation
  • Report to assigned duty station and perform daily inspections
  • Clear and maintain ramp and maze areas
  • Participate in the maintenance of lifts and lift buildings
  • Aid skier/snowboarders/bikers/lift riders whenever necessary
  • Instruct and assist skiers/snowboarders/bikers/lift riders in the use of the lift
  • Operators working at the top of the lift during summer operations will be required to lift guest’s bikes from the bike racks and hold the bike until the guest gets off the next chair
  • Operate tools and equipment necessary to do the job, i.e. shovels, rakes, ice chippers, etc.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Have the ability to operate the drive controls unsupervised/unattended
  • Enjoy working with the public
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on friendly, courteous service.
  • Previous experience working with the public in a service type position
  • Must be at least 18 years old /US citizen or work permit

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

  • Must have passed the operator proficiency test
  • Seasonal orientation
  • All safety training related to position, including company-wide safety processes and procedures

 

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

 

Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in cold and snowy conditions.

Capable of navigating mountainous terrain and assisting guests of all ages.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Work alone or with others, based outdoors. This position is exposed to temperature extremes (above 85 degrees and below 20 degrees), sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (8200+ feet). Must be able to walk on even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend even/uneven/slippery terrain, climb/descend stairs, stand and/or sit for long periods of time, bend, stoop, reach, lift arms to wave/direct, and lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

 

ATTENDANCE:

 

This position requires the ability to maintain flexibility in a work schedule, which includes weekends and holidays. Resort is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, 7 days a week during ski season.  During the summer, the resort will be open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Typical daily work hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.
