Job Type: Seasonal, Hourly

Wage: $15.75/hr.

Location: Salida, CO.

Job Description

Responsible for the safety of pool guests and staff by means of competent and preventive lifeguarding and responsible for general maintenance duties within the facility area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following statement are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. The Parks and Recreation Director retains the right to modify or change the essential and additional functions of the job at any time.

  • Actively attend to pool patrons to ensure their safety.
  • Be attentive to the pool environment to ensure no hazards are present.
  • Competently perform preventive lifeguarding 
  • Correctly respond to emergency situation
  • Promote positive public relations with guests and staff
  • Perform general maintenance duties, including cleaning of soaking pools, locker-rooms and deck areas; and washing and folding laundry
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings and in-service training sessions ,

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Works under the immediate supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor or Lifeguard III by direction of the Parks and Recreation Director. No supervision is exercised.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Ability to consistently enforce pool rules
  • Possess knowledge of the pool’s life saving and emergency equipment
  • Possess knowledge of SHSAC policies and procedures 
  • Capable of receiving and implementing oral and written direction from supervisors 
  • Ability to demonstrate above-average swimming 
  • Ability to demonstrate a courteous and friendly nature

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Current Lifeguard, First Aid, AED and CPR certifications.
  • Ability to obtain Bloodborne Pathogens Certification within 3 months of employment

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in extreme weather conditions and be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Be physically fit and be able to perform rescues as needed.
