Job Type: Part time, Hourly

Wage: $15.08-$20.52/hr.

Location: Delta, CO.

Job Description:

Under general direction performs work in monitoring activities in aquatic complex to prevent accidents and assist participants and monitors the safety of patrons. This position responds to emergencies or incidents in or around a swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, or locker room & enforces rules for patron safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Scans the entire aquatic complex and monitors patron behavior for safe activity.
  • Promptly, courteously, and consistently enforces pool regulations and policies.
  • Patrols related areas (sauna, wellness pool, deck, etc.) for proper usage & safety.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to all emergency situations, including those outside of the pool area when necessary.
  • Administers first aid and completes required reports.
  • Communicates with patrons about safety rules, guidelines and policies.
  • Identifies and appropriately responds to water emergencies, distress situations, accidents and improper conduct situations.
  • Cleans and maintains locker rooms.
  • Hoses deck, cleans stainless steel, washes windows, scrubs pool tiles, empties. skimmer baskets and cleans store room and other cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Maintains and cleans other equipment.
  • Maintains records of cleaning, attendance and timesheets.
  • Assists by setting up for special events and aquatic programs.
  • Attends in-service trainings & completes monthly swimming requirements.
  • Maintains a current/valid Lifeguarding/First-aid/CPR/AED certification through the American Red Cross.
  • If WSI Certified: Teaches swimming lessons on a regular basis, both public and private.
  • Delivers excellent customer service.
  • Cares for and stores equipment; use of computer for timecard entry; performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Considerable knowledge of water safety and swimming techniques and be able to perform water rescue.
  • Ability to perform all American Red Cross aquatic rescue techniques.
  • Ability to talk and hear in person; ability to see and read instructions, observes conditions and to instruct.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, associates, and the general public.
  • Will be required to sign an authorization form for the City to conduct a criminal background check and received " clearance of check.
  • At least 15 years of age and current certification in ARC Lifeguard Training.
  • Schedule can include early mornings, nights, weekends, split shifts, and holidays.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 9th grade.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic Math skills.

  • Must be able to concentrate on tasks with many distractions.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work and lift 50 pounds and to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to perform rescues, maintenance & first-aid.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, twist, reach, bend, grasp, kneel and perform a variety of similar body movements; ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
