Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs professional Clerical and other duties for the Legal Department.  Provides assistance to other City officials and employees.  Will be expected to identify and perform tasks within areas of expertise on own initiative as the need arises.

Essential Functions:

  • Research legal sources, investigate facts, and draft legal documents for review, approval, and use by the Legal Department.
  • Take responsibility for processing of improvement districts, annexation documentation, and for research of official County records.
  • File pleadings with court clerk, maintain law library, keep and monitor legal volumes and ensure legal volumes are up-to-date, and assist in the real estate closing process.
  • Perform administrative assistant duties, and otherwise relieve the City Attorney's Office of clerical work and administrative details.
  • Assist the prosecutor in Municipal Court with the handling and dissemination of discovery to defendants.
  • Obtain and maintain a notary public certification in Colorado.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited college.
  • Two (2) years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.                                                                            
  • Knowledge of legal secretary principles and practices and standard legal references and their contents.
  • Competency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office and Document Management systems.
Licensures & Certificates (must be active and current)
  •  Current Colorado driver’s license with acceptable record.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Sedentary physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens.  Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment as part of the legal team.  Subject to many interruptions and pressures due to multiple calls and inquiries.
