Wage: $43,000-$99,407/yr.

Location: Leadville, CO.

Job Description:

Primary purpose:  To create a flexible special education program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth for all learners; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper secondary grades (7-12) education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents, families, and other staff members. Facilitate quantitative assessment to determine learning disabilities, and diligently write Individualized Education Plans which help the learner achieve. Close monitoring of all special education provisions, laws, and requirements important, as well as Response to Intervention support.

Length of Assignment: Academic year: 179 teacher contract days, 162 student contact days. Teaching days are on a 4 day work week beginning in August and ending in June. New teacher contract begins 8/1/2025. 

Salary: LCSD Teacher Salary Schedule (will be negotiated in the Spring for 2025-2026 school year) Full benefits provided including 12 PTO, excellent Health, Dental and Vision insurance and PERA retirement program.  FLSA: Exempt

Responsibilities

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to: 

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers on implementation of IEP for all learners on their caseload.
  • Collaborate with other service providers for all learners on their caseload. 
  • Hold and facilitate all IEP meetings for all learners on their caseload. 
  • Participate and collaborate with the MTSS process, prior to special education recommendation.
  • Conduct all assessments required with determining student special education eligibility.
  • Develop and maintain all IEP related documentation for all learners on their caseload. 
  • Work closely with parents and families, at least to the minimum of the laws, to ensure excellent communication and clarity around student plans.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program. 
  • Create engaging lessons and assessments for learners according to curricula requirements and their individual learning needs and goals. 
  • Identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, behavioral, and learning needs. Creates an effective and welcoming environment for learning. 
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities. 
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines. 
  • Select and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. 
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as appropriate. 
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required. 
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities, as appropriate. 
  • Supervise/chaperone student activities within the school day.
  • Develop strong relationships with students that both hold expectations high and support students to achieve high results within a calm, safe and supportive environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree of related subject from accredited university 
  • Colorado teaching certificate in Special Education (or enrolled in alternative licensure program)
  • Experience in education and bilingual Spanish is preferred, and not necessary for hiring.
