Job Description

Job Type: Full time or Part time

Wage: $40,000-$42,000/yr. Or $19.23-$20.19/hr. 

Location: Leadville, CO.

Job Description:

The Landfill Attendant will collect applicable fees, provide information and direction to customers, monitor loads and site activities, and help staff with various tasks.

General Duties and Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor entrance to county landfill operation to ensure conformity with landfill operational requirements.
  • Checks all loads brought to landfill for possible hazardous materials.
  • Prevents admission of any potential hazardous substance or prohibited materials.
  • Assesses necessary fee.
  • Collects fees and issues receipts as required.
  • Directs vehicles to correct dumping locations.
  • Answers inquiries related to landfill operations.
  • May set-up and maintain files and bookkeeping records for operations as directed.
  • Does light clerical work including correspondence and reports.
  • Operates computer equipment and ensures timely updating of data base.
  • May recommend distribution and sorting of waste materials per policy.
  • Identifies and recommends materials for recycling; greets the public and assists users with landfill information.
  • May assist in sorting recyclables and other site tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A clean driving record.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a strong work ethic.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and customer service protocol with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Pass drug and alcohol screening.
  • Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish.
