Location: Leadville, CO.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Assistant collects and labels venous and capillary blood specimens, urine, or tissue samples for requested testing, from pediatrics, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients according to established guidelines and completes documentation for the specimen. Laboratory Assistant will prepare, deliver, pick up, receive, handle, sort, process and package incoming and outgoing specimens, in accordance with health and safety regulations and laboratory policies to ensure specimen integrity including reference Laboratory processing which includes send out labs and quality patient care.

Performs all paperwork, technical and nontechnical procedures required to process and submit specimens including by not limited to; receive and make telephone calls, receive patients, use the Laboratory and organizational information system to enter patient demographics, transcribe orders, use laboratory reference guides to provide information, and answer questions regarding specimen requirements, test results, and other client or patient requests. Assist in maintaining laboratory areas, equipment, supply and maintaining an organized filing system.

The Laboratory Assistant will assist and perform laboratory testing, record and maintain any laboratory functions including and assisting with technical and administrative tasks as assigned by laboratory management. The Laboratory Assistant provides patient care under the direction of Laboratory management. The Laboratory Assistant provides age appropriate and culturally aware patient care by participating in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of outpatient health care services. The Lab Assistant will perform comfort and safety measures.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • Phlebotomy training and experience, preferred.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-3 years’ experience in a medical clinic setting, preferred
  • Proficient computer skills.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience or certification preferred.
  • Ability to obtain Phlebotomy certification within 1 year of hire.
  • BLS

OTHER SKILLS

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess the ability to collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment.
  • Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Basic computer competency.
  • Clerical duties such as answering phone, filing, copying, billing and faxing.
  • Personal time management skills.
  • Strong detail orientation are required.
  • Providing a safe patient care environment.
  • Supporting all initiatives of the health care team.
  • Promoting excellence in customer service.
  • Participating in all performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ethical accountability.
  • Preservation of confidentiality.
