Job Description
The SMMS Interim Executive Director (ED) works alongside the School Director (SD) to lead all aspects of Shining Mountains Montessori School's strategic planning, operations, and community outreach. The primary objective is to ensure the sustainability, growth, and operational excellence of SMMS. The ED is dominantly responsible for the legal, financial, and “outward facing” components of the SMMS operations designed to support the day-to-day and “on-the-ground” operations primarily handled by the SD. A significant benefit of the role is that a majority of the job responsibilities can be handled remotely. The ED role requires business acumen, an operational understanding of Early Childhood Education requirements, a dynamic leadership style, technology skills, and exceptional communication skills. Hiring and Accountability The ED is hired by and accountable to the SMMS Board of Directors and the start date will be determined by input from both parties.
Required Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree.
● Experience or credentials in a relevant field- Education, Early Childhood Education, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social/Behavioral Sciences, or Business Management.
● Three years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
● Three years of proven operational effectiveness.
Desired Education and Experience
● Experienced in nonprofit management, business principles, Early Childhood Education business practices, including accreditation and rating, and governance structures and practices.
● Assistant-Director qualified
● Experienced with individual, corporate, foundation, and government funding sources. Fund development experience includes prospect research, creating and submitting applications and supporting materials, and tracking and reporting on awarded funds.
● Experience with Brightwheel, Quickbooks, Excel, Colorado Shines PDIS, Google Suite, and additional software solutions.
● Three years of experience in the educational field.
Primary Duties
Visionary Leader for Diverse Stakeholders
● Passionate, dynamic leader and life-long learner.
● Engage staff, families, Board of Directors, alumni, and community-at-large in SMMS's mission, vision, and values.
● Hire, supervise, and manage staff in conjunction with SD.
● Implement the yearly SMMS Strategic Plan.
Business Operations and Fiscal Management
● Oversee management of the building and grounds including daily maintenance, seasonal needs, and long-term care.
● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and meet clear financial goals and objectives.
● Maintain optimal school enrollment.
● Develop long-range fiscal planning and financial strategy in partnership with the SMMS Board of Directors.
● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop the annual budget.
● Manage day-to-day spending to budget expectations.
● Collaborate with the Board Treasurer to develop and present monthly financial reports to the Board.
● Coordinate annual audit and present it to the Board.
● File financial reports, tax documents, and required supporting materials accurately and on time, with support from the Board Treasurer and accounting firm. Fundraiser
● Serve as the fundraising Manager and Committee organizer.
● Brainstorm, prioritize, and implement fundraising efforts to maintain the financial viability of the organization and invest in future projects.
● Attract, cultivate, and retain donors through relationship development and effectively matching donor desires to organizational needs.
● Attract, cultivate, and retain a corps of volunteers dedicated to executing fundraising efforts.
● Plan, organize, and oversee the execution of a long-term grant-writing strategy.
● Track and report on grant and loan funds accurately and on time.
Spokesperson and Community Liaison
● Act as SMMS Chief Public Relations officer.
● Represent with professionalism, personability, and poise the SMMS students, families, and staff to the broader community at public events, forums, presentations, etc. This community includes government bodies, other schools, donors and grant providers, the press, and other community partners. Serve as the primary advocate and ambassador of the SMMS organization, mission, and vision to the broader community.
● Partner with and act as the liaison between the Board, School Director, and staff.
● Develop a high-level communication strategy to stakeholders in partnership with SD.
● Collaborate with the Board of Directors to create, publish, and distribute Annual Report.
Administrative Duties
● Maintain proficiency in various technology platforms, including client management systems, donor databases, accounting software, and office software.
● Oversees the family Enrollment process in partnership with the School Director.
● Ensure family compliance with contractual obligations.
● Ensure compliance with SMMS’ licensing requirements as well as the Chaffee County Department of Human Services, Americans with Disabilities Act, Health Department, Fire Department, building, and other applicable codes and requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
● Develop and uphold, in partnership with the SD and Board of Directors, the policies upon which the school operates.
● Maintain an understanding of Department of Health recommendations.
● Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current developments in Early Childhood Education best practices and policies on local, state, and national levels, including National Association for the Education of Young Children, Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale, and Pyramid Plus.
● Guide, develop, coach, and conduct the annual performance evaluation for the School Director.
Compensation
This is an interim, part-time position. Hourly pay range is between $30-$36 per hour commensurate with experience. 15-25 hours per week
