For doing good, and providing a warm and stable home, you will be compensated with tax-exempt pay, averaging $2,000- $3,000 a month, depending upon the person's level of disability and care needed as a Home Caregiver.
A Home Caregiver is an individual or family who wants to make a difference in the life of an adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) while having the satisfaction of owning their own business. Home Caregivers welcome a person with IDD into their lives and home to become part of their family and provide the support and companionship they need to thrive. Home Caregivers provide services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a family type environment. Individuals are included in every aspect of daily life from shopping, holidays, and family vacations. This is a family home and family can look many different ways. This could be a single man or woman, a married couple, a family with or without children and or pets. Home Caregivers could live in an apartment in the middle of a city or on a farm in the country.
With the support of the Starpoint staff and other human services professionals, Home Caregivers become trusted caregivers, friends, and advocates for the individual with whom they live.
- Be at least 18 years old, with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Be honest, dependable, caring, and patient with good judgment.
- Be a good communicator with organizational skills.
- Have a house or apartment, rented or owned with a private bedroom and a private or semi-private bathroom for the person. The home must also include shared living areas such as a kitchen, living room, dining room, and yard.
- Provide a written proposal detailing your home’s physical description, neighborhood amenities, recreational facilities, transportation options, and other community resources.
- Clear a background check, including criminal history, driving record, and reference checks. All adults living in the home must also pass these checks.
- Be eligible to work in the developmental disability system, with no disqualifying allegations.
- Complete required training including State “Qualified Medication Administration Personnel” (QMAP), First Aid, CPR, Legal Rights, Mistreatment Reporting, and other mandated training.
- Have good verbal and written communication skills to interact with Starpoint employees, Case Managers, parents/guardians and other professionals.
- Maintain full insurance coverage on your vehicle and adequate home/renter’s insurance.
- Be available to sign a renewable one-year contract with Starpoint.
- Own and be able to use a computer with internet service and have all necessary documentation equipment and supplies.
