Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Manager to oversee our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality, customer service, and leadership, with a focus on delivering exceptional guest experiences in the golf industry.

Overview:

Oversees all operating functions of the golf club including its Accounting, Marketing & Sales, Communications, Human Resources, Guest Services, Events, Golf Instruction, Facilities Management, Food and Beverage, the Golf Shop, the Club’s bar and restaurant. Responsible for the relationships between the club and its members, guests, employees, community and the ownership group. The General Manager develops operating policies and procedures, directs the work of all department managers, maintaining the course's financial health, and enhancing the overall golfer experience. Develops, implements and monitors the approved budget, monitors the quality of the club’s products and services and ensures maximum member and guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

- Manage day-to-day operations of the establishment
- Provide leadership and guidance to Assistant Managers and staff
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service
- Handle cash transactions and financial reporting
- Supervise and coordinate events management activities
- Maintain quality standards for all services provided
- Develop and implement strategies to achieve business goals

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements general policies established by the Ownership Group; directs their administration and execution. Plans, develops and approves specific operational policies, programs, procedures and methods in concert with general policies.
  • Develops, maintains and administers a sound organizational plan; initiates improvements as necessary.
  • Establishes a basic personnel policy; initiates and monitors policies relating to personnel actions, training and professional development programs.
  • Develops, maintains and disseminates a basic management philosophy to guide all club personnel toward optimal operating results, employee morale, and maximize member/guest satisfaction.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Able to lead both onsite and remote employees.
  • Assures that effective orientation, onboarding and training are given to each new employee. Develops ongoing training requirements for employees.  Convenes and presides over meetings with departmental managers; conducts all-facility personnel meetings.
  • Maintains membership with the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the Professional Golfer’s Association of America (PGA). Attends conferences, workshops and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field.
  • Coordinates the development of the clubʼs long-range and annual (business) plans.
  • Coordinates development of operating and capital budgets according to the budget calendar; monitors monthly and other financial statements for the club; takes effective corrective action as required.
  • Analyzes financial statements, manages cash flow and establishes controls to safeguard funds. Reviews income and costs relative to goals; takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Consistently ensures that the club is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of all the clubʼs physical assets, equipment and facilities. Provides for and manages use of the clubʼs equipment, space and materials. Ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation of all club facilities and environments.
  • Coordinates the marketing and membership relations programs to promote the clubʼs services and facilities to potential and present members, guest and the local community.
  • Oversees the writing and publishing of the club newsletter and plans for intra-club public relations.
  • Reviews and initiates programs, special events and tournaments to provide members, guests, and the local community with a variety of events.
  • Ensures the highest standards for food, beverage, sports and recreation, entertainment and other club services.
  • Participates in outside activities that are judged as appropriate and approved by the Ownership Group to enhance the prestige of the club; broadens the scope of the clubʼs operation by fulfilling the public obligations of the club as a participating member of the community.
  • Negotiates and recommends Ownership approval for contracts. Coordinate all Capital purchases to ensure the best valued.
  • Provides advice and recommendations to the Ownership Group about construction, alterations, maintenance, materials, supplies, equipment and services not provided in approved plans and/or budgets.
  • Handles emergencies such as fires, accidents and breaches of security or house rules promptly and in person. Emphasizes prevention through training, inspection and preventive enforcement.
  • Gives direction to and works closely with vendors, outside contractors, firms and individuals providing services to the club.
  • Performs competitive analyses on clubs and other businesses providing member alternatives through personal observations and historical reports.
  • Develops and deliver monthly General Managers report. Communicates consistently with the Ownership Group. Identifies issues and recommends solutions.
  • Prepares reports and other support material for Ownership Group use.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Ownership Group.

Reports to: Ownership Group - Asset Managers

Supervises:

Executive Staff, Director of Operations, Food & Beverage Manager, Marketing & Sales Manager, Finance/HR Manager

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Sports Management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Golf Course General Manager or Assistant Manager or a related industry, with a proven track record of success.
  • Able to attain and maintain PGA Class A Membership preferred, and CMAA certification required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with managers, guests and employees in one-on-one and small group situations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to create and disseminate written correspondence.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills. Ability to motivate, develop and manage a team.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and revenue management and be able to perform math computations essential for financial management.
  • Must be computer savvy able to lead on sight and remote teams and utilize Microsoft Office, and familiarity with Golf Now/365 management system a plus.
  • Knowledge of golf course maintenance practices and equipment is a plus
