SUMMARY

 With customer service a priority, performs necessary duties as assigned for various positions at the recreation center.  These duties could include administration, aquatics, fitness, leisure and/or sports and custodial.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for all patrons.
  • Scan and walk through facility, as assigned, perform routine facility walk through for observation of usage areas.
  • May operate cash register, I.D. camera equipment, scoreboard or other equipment for duties assigned.
  • Assist other City employees as requested.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment for department assigned.
  • May be required to complete forms, documents, etc. relating to department assigned.
  • Responsible for proper opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Completion of forms and reports as necessary.
  • May perform duties involved in registrations for various programs or events.
  • Teach classes as assigned to all levels of students in the correct application according to department assigned.
  • May prepare lesson plans.
  • Take attendance.
  • May prepare student certificates.
  • Assist in publicizing program or event.
  • Assist in recruiting students or patrons.
  • Cares and stores assigned equipment.
  • Assist in set-up and take down for events or programs, as assigned.
  • Enforce all City and recreation center regulations and policies.
  • Reports accidents or injuries to patrons or employees as directed.
  • Keeps score book and score board for sports games as assigned.
  • Maintains player eligibility rosters and other records.
  • May teach classes consisting of stretching, toning, aerobic and cool down sessions; insure patrons wellness and safety when performing duties of teaching.
  • Monitors patron behavior to ensure a safe activity.
  • Promptly, courteously and consistently enforce regulations and policies of City and center.
  • OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE: performs other duties as assigned; special projects as assigned. (If CPO or AFO certified, will assist in operation of pump room, including back washing, cleaning probes, assisting with super-chlorination, use of SCBA and general troubleshooting.)
  • QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Thorough knowledge base of recreation facility will be expected through usage of facility.
  • Basic knowledge of general office procedures and methods, including good telephone skills, and ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of recreational activities and sports.
  • Knowledge of the care and attending of children and leading children activities.
  • Ability to perform data entry.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication, math and leadership skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, officials, co-workers, community organizations and general public.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Previous experience working with sporting activities and/or other recreational activities or special events, if assigned to sports or leisure divisions.
  • Assignment of duties in administration must be 18 years of age or older
  • Assignments for lead lifeguard must be 17 years of age or older.
  • Will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required at time of hire or obtained within 30 days of hire date.
  • If assigned in aquatics must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and WSI.  Preferred certification in CPR and First Aid instructor, Lifeguard Instructor and AFO or CPO.
  • If assigned, will be required to possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Schedule can include early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficient in English. Other languages helpful.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic math skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, pinch, grasp, twist, climb, bend, kneel, reach, pick and perform a wide variety of body movements.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work and to lift from 25 to 50 pounds and to occasionally carry up to 50 and 100 pounds, depending on activity being performed.
  • Possess hand/eye and/or hand/eye/foot coordination adequate to operate phone system, computer and other office equipment.
  • Perform exercises and class instruction.
  • Ability to see and read instructions; observe conditions.
  • Ability to hear, see read and talk in person and to speak clearly over public address system.
