Brief Program Description

The Mountain Roots Healthy Futures Program builds education initiatives, nutrition and food access programs, public health and human services, and agricultural/conservation programs in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Community driven initiatives in the Healthy Futures Program include Farm to School, Sustainable Agriculture Community Gardens, and Community Food Security (Hunger Solutions) working together to build and sustain healthy communities, healthy people, and a healthy environment. The mission of Colorado Farm to Table is to grow, harvest, and distribute fresh produce at no cost to food banks, soup kitchens, and pantries, feed families in need across Colorado.

Service Description

The Farm Hand/ Volunteer Lead will assist CFTT’s Farm Manager in day-to-day operations of the farm and greenhouse facilities. Side-by-side with CFTT’s farmer, this member will learn how to effectively lead volunteer crews with farm duties such as weeding and harvesting. This position will require an active and energetic person who enjoys outdoor work and can represent CFTT to our local community in a professional manner. This position will provide an introduction to many of the basics of produce farming, experience in leading a small crew of workers, and an introduction to high-elevation, irrigated farming with an emphasis on sustainability.

AmeriCorps Member Duties

Colorado Farm to Table grows fresh produce for donation to food pantries and soup kitchens to serve Coloradans who are experiencing food insecurity. Although we have a small staff, we have a team of 100+ volunteers who assist us in planting, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting our vegetable crops. Since 2005, our team has donated over million pounds of fresh produce to Coloradans who are experiencing food insecurity.

● Assist CFTT Farm Manager with day-to-day operation of our produce farm including irrigation, cultivating, maintenance and groundskeeping. 

● Assist in leading volunteer crews in tasks such as weeding and harvesting

● Assist with taking photographs for social media posts and farm reports.

● Represent CFTT in a positive and professional manner to our volunteers and our community
