Certified Medical Coding/Billing Specialist

Opportunity for an EXPERIENCED Medical Billing/Coding Specialist - (CPC preferred) with experience in all aspects of medical coding for a Primary Care Rural Health Clinic. Candidates should have a strong grasp of medical terminology, anatomy, as well as ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes and their proper applications. Good communication skills and a basic understanding of insurance requirements is a must. Applicants must be adept at handling changing insurance and coding requirements, and good intra-personal skills are a plus. This is an onsite – in person – 40 hours per week position.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Performs outpatient billing for Primary Care Rural Health Clinic.
  • Review claims to ensure they are accurate and represent the level of care provided
  • Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes
  • Ensures codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations
  • Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues
  • Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors
  • Effectively handles and manages denials and appeals in a timely manner in accordance with payer guidelines
  • Communicates with providers and staff regarding coding and chart documentation
  • Any other task(s) assigned by Administration

Job Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification Preferred
  • Experience in primary care coding/billing
  • 2 to 5 years experience with physician office billing and coding preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • High level of professionalism
  • Self-motivated
  • Organized and efficient
  • Previous experience with insurance payers including Medicare, Medicaid and other commercial and private payers
  • Knowledge of payer rules and regulations
  • Understanding CPT/ HCPCS and ICD – 10 codes
