Job Type: Full time, Salaried

Wage: $75,000-$94,000/yr. 

Location: Canon City, CO.

Job Description

The Estimator I is responsible for calculating and preparing work item quantities and production comparison reports for bid items for potential work and/or existing projects. They will review project plans and specifications to determine the overall scope-of-work for a project. Assists the Senior Estimator in various stages of the project estimate, material procurement and subcontractor quotes. Work with project team on project design, production analysis, quantities and topo’s to verify construction work is being built as per plan and specifications. Must make independent decisions that may directly impact the success/failure of a project.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Perform takeoffs from plans as well as prepare bid topo’s obtained by Tezak Heavy Equipment

· Calculate and prepare material and work item quantities (bid takeoffs) and produce comparison reports for bid items of work or projects

· Work with Senior Estimator on Change Order pricing and budgets

· Run production analysis on earthwork bids and/or projects under contract to determine the most cost-effective means and methods

· Thoroughly review individual proposal specifications and drawings to establish scope of work and the required content of each estimate

· Assist in bid preparations; sending out requests for quotes to subcontractors and material suppliers

· Organize and document quotes from vendors and subs during the bidding process

· Attend Pre-Bid Meetings and Bid Openings

· As company representative, meet with Owner’s representatives and designers to ensure designs and field conditions match

· Collaborate with Owners Rep’s or Engineers to solve project related issues as they arise

· Provide value engineering ideas during the bidding process, as well as construction phases

· Manage daily production reports for mass excavation projects (daily topo’s)

· Collaborate on producing professional presentations and technical proposals for project procurement

· Complete all necessary documentation required for project closeout in a timely fashion. This may include working with owners, survey subs, and other parties that may have an integral part in completion of the project.

· Maintain a professional image when meeting with owners, subs, and/or company employees

· Travel to projects throughout Colorado is necessary

· Must communicate effectively on a daily basis with manufacturer’s reps, vendors, subcontractors, and fellow employees

· Support other department personnel as required or needed. This may include processing change orders, submittal preparation, daily written communications, and scheduling project meetings.

· Develop a positive working relationship with project owners, suppliers and key subcontractors

· Attend company sponsored training to enhance skills or learn new concepts/products

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Must possess high analytical ability with a high degree of attention to detail

· Experience with bidding software, Blue Beam, Auto Cad, AGTEK, or Trimble Business Center is a plus

· Must be organized and be able to hit planned action dates

· Demonstrated ability to create and interpret reports on costing data

· Must work well in a team environment

· Must have demonstrated ability to make sound decisions based on experience and skill set

· Must maintain a good driving record. Company supplied vehicle provided to be used for company use only.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Project Management or Engineering.
  • 2 years of work experience in civil construction discipline or a combination of work experience and education can be substituted in lieu of education requirement
  • Experience in Project Management, Estimating, Drafting, and/or Field Construction is preferred
  • Drainage / Canal armoring, riprap and boulder drop-structure experience a plus
  • Experience with Trimble GPS is a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIROMENT:

· Will be required to drive throughout Colorado, in all seasons, to evaluate project sites and attend meetings. Company supplied vehicle provided to be used for company use only.

· A typical work week may exceed 50 hours, including both field and office time

· Frequently sit for long periods of time

· Occasionally lift and carry up to 25#
