Description | SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Street Crew Supervisor, the Equipment Operator is responsible for the operation of light, heavy, and Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required equipment and performs routine maintenance to the Town’s right of way assets and utilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications): High school diploma or equivalent required; Valid Driver's License; one (1) to two (2) years of experience in equipment operation or utility maintenance experience required; A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with tanker and airbrake endorsement is required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire; Flagger certification and Confined Spaces required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date; CPR and First Aid training is required throughout employment. This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Skill in: hand and foot coordination; effective written and verbal communication skills; following complex oral and written instructions; working independently and collaboratively; time management; attention to detail; maintaining awareness of surroundings; decision making; preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports; problem solving; understanding and abiding by all safety rules. Environmental Factors: Duties of this job are regularly performed outside in all types of weather, with high UV rays in the summer and cold temperatures in the winter. Employees must be able to operate a motor vehicle in all types of weather. Work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights up to 25 feet. Must be able to accommodate an on-call schedule as required on a rotating basis. Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate heavy machinery and must be able to coordinate hands and eyes in using the equipment. The employee must be able to climb to heights of 10 ft, walk, reach with hands and arms, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, climb, crawl, crouch, talk and hear over the phone, radio, and in person.
