Reports To: Principal and/or Assistant Principal 

Length of Assignment: Follows LCSD Academic year Calendar: which is 179 teacher contract days and 162 student contact days. Teaching days are on a 4 day work week beginning in August and ending in June. (Calendar for 25-26 will be posted on the website when confirmed.)

Salary: LCSD Teacher Salary Schedule plus excellent benefits!  PTO, Health, Dental, and Vision insurance! PERA program  FLSA: Exempt position *(Salary and compensation for 25-26 school year will be updated when contract negotiations are completed)

Primary purpose: 

To create a flexible secondary (7-12) grade English program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for secondary education in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. This position is scheduled to work primarily with 9th and 11th Graders. 

Responsibilities: 

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to: 

  • Teach English to students in a classroom, utilizing a course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities. Subjects include but are not limited to Crew and 7-12 English. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter. 
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. 
  • Use a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. 
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. 
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. 
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate, timely records, and prepares progress reports. 
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program. 
  • Identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and addressing students health, attitude, and learning challenges. 
  • Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. 
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities. 
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines. 
  • Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records. 
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, as appropriate.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the state testing program. 
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required. 
  • Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 
  • Supervise/chaperone student activities within the school day.
  • Develop strong relationships with students that both hold expectations high and support students to achieve high results within a calm, safe and supportive environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university 
  • Current Colorado teaching license for grades 7-12 with English Endorsement (or actively enrolled in alternative licensure program)
  • Experience in education and love for Leadville’s students preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish is preferred, and not necessary for hiring.
