Location: Leadville, CO.

Job Description:

Project Dream is looking for part-time activity bus driver to provide activity and route transportation for afterschool, Friday, and special event programming.

Compensation: Pay is $20-$26.50/hour dependent upon experience, certification, and years worked.  FLSA: Exempt.  Part time work documented through monthly timesheets.  Hours vary by agreement. 

Supervisor: Project Dream Assistant Director

Start Date: ASAP

Job Calendar: 

  • Pre-trip: 30 minutes daily of pre-trip inspection, as needed bus cleaning, and route logistics prior to beginning transportation.
  • Afterschool programs take place Monday-Thursday from 3:15-6:00 pm when school is in session after school hours.
    • Regular transportation routes home from afterschool operate from 5:15-6:45 pm.
    • Per request of Project Dream Site Supervisors, activity transportation may occur between 4:00-5:15 pm.
  • Fridays are full-days of programming from 8:00-3:30 pm that will be held on most Fridays during the school year.
    • Regular transportation routes to programming from 7:30-8:30 am.
    • Regular transportation routes home from programming 3:00-4:00 pm.
    • Per request of Project Dream Site Supervisors, activity transportation may occur between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.
  • Project Dream operates from September 3, 2024 to June 6, 2025 for the 2024-2025 school year.
  • Route and activity transportation subject to change due to program adaptations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Comfortable drive a large vehicle in all weather conditions
  • Patience and a positive attitude
  • Ability to commit to one full school year of programming
  • Must be able to pass background check required by District 
  • Operate the LCSD activity bus in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations of the LCSD transportation department.
  • Drive route. Manage student behavior and enforce discipline while enroute.
  • Maintain complete control of the vehicle and remain alert while enroute.
  • Provide care and assistance to children when entering and exiting bus and when crossing streets.
  • Follow the action step protocols for behavioral concerns as outlined in the LCSD Project Dream Staff Handbook, and effectively communicate with school Site Supervisors regarding any concerns.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the activity bus, including as-needed and routine weekly cleaning. 
  • Communicate maintenance needs, emergencies, and delays to the Transportation Director and/or OST Assistant Director.
  • Fulfill reporting & record keeping for LCSD transportation department.
  • Assist Project Dream programs for student supervision as needed.
  • Administrative work as delegated by OST Assistant Director, including: roster and route management for regular transportation routes, supplies deliveries, data entry, etc.
  • Drive out of town activity trips.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Training: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent vocational school or short term courses

Experience: No experience required. Previous truck or bus driving experience preferred.

Skills & Knowledge: Driving and communication skills. Ability to work with students and individuals with special needs.  Knowledge of pre-trip inspection procedures, back-up techniques, and mounting terrain driving skills preferred at hire.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations: Valid Driver’s License CPR and First Aid certifications required within 3 months after hire. May opt to pursue CDL license, Department of Transportation physical examination, and “B” license with P2-S endorsement after hire. CDL training is provided. Must pass Federal DOT drug test.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Mental Function: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to compare, communicate, use interpersonal skills, and negotiate.  Frequently required to analyze, coordinate, compute, evaluate, and compile.  Occasionally required to copy, instruct, and synthesize.

Compensation: Pay is $20-$26.50/hour dependent upon experience, certification, nature of work being performed, and years worked with Project Dream. Hours are expected to vary week to week, with an average of 18-20 hours weekly.
