Job Type: Full time, Salaried

Wage: $65,266-$$91,600/yr.

Location: Florence, CO.

Job Description:

Responsible for ensuring all students have reliable, safe, and timely access to education by overseeing the district's transportation services. This role includes managing daily operations, fleet maintenance, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and driver safety. The Director will also lead a team of staff, coordinate safety programs, and work closely with district leadership, parents, and the community to address transportation needs and concerns.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Regulatory Compliance & Knowledge: Ensure strict adherence to all transportation-related regulations (FMCSA, DOT, ADA, CDE) and special education requirements (IDEA, FAPE).

  • Staff Leadership & Training: Lead and develop transportation staff, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous improvement. Oversee hiring, training, performance evaluations, and professional development.

  • Budget & Fleet Management: Manage and optimize the transportation department’s budget, ensuring efficient vehicle procurement, maintenance, fuel use, and long-term fleet planning.

  • Safety & Incident Management: Maintain high safety standards, investigate accidents, develop accident prevention strategies, and ensure readiness for emergencies.

  • Daily Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day transportation operations, including fleet maintenance, routing, scheduling, and operational efficiency.

  • Technology Utilization: Use fleet management software, GPS systems, and Microsoft Office tools to improve efficiency and monitor performance.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Address concerns from parents, staff, and the community, and collaborate with district leadership to ensure safe, efficient transportation.

  • Crisis & Emergency Management: Develop and implement procedures for managing transportation during emergencies, weather delays, or unforeseen events.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Business, or a related field. Extensive experience in transportation operations, fleet management, and staff supervision, ideally in an educational or public service setting.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local transportation regulations (FMCSA, DOT, ADA, CDE) and special education transportation requirements (IDEA, FAPE).

  • Leadership & Management: Proven experience in supervising and training staff, with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Budget & Financial Management: Demonstrated ability to manage and optimize transportation-related budgets.

  • Safety & Compliance: Knowledge of safety inspection standards, accident investigation, and emergency response protocols.

  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in fleet management software, GPS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations.

  • Customer Service & Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to address inquiries and concerns effectively.

 

Salary & Benefits:

 

  • 195-day annual contract

  • 9-hour workday

  • Salary based on the Non-Instructional Administrator Salary Schedule
