Lead the Financial Strategy of a Thriving Colorado Mountain Community

The City of Salida is seeking a strategic and collaborative Finance Director to lead the City’s financial operations and help ensure long-term fiscal sustainability for our community. This executive leadership role oversees budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, investments, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with GAAP, Colorado Revised Statutes, and the Salida Municipal Code.

Serving as a key advisor to the City Administrator, City Council, and Finance Committee, the Finance Director helps guide responsible financial decision-making, supports community priorities, and strengthens the City’s financial stewardship.

Position Overview

The Finance Director directs the City’s core financial operations, including budget development, financial reporting, accounting systems, audit coordination, investments, and debt management. The position supervises finance staff, manages the City’s financial records and systems, and provides financial analysis and reporting to City leadership and City Council. This role also supports utilities rate analysis and ensures strong internal controls and transparent financial practices across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (MBA and/or CPA preferred)

  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience, including at least five (5) years in a supervisory role

  • Government or municipal accounting experience required

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, governmental budgeting, and internal controls

  • Experience with accounting systems and financial software (Tyler/InCode preferred)

Salary Range: $102,000.00 To $145,000.00 Annually DOE
