Job Description:

 Get Outdoors Leadville! (GOL!) is a grant-funded initiative of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space department working to expand equitable access to culturally informed and enriching outdoor experiences in Lake County. GOL! envisions a world where people of all identities, backgrounds, and abilities experience safety, wellness, and a sense of belonging in the natural world. In October 2023, GOL! merged with PROS to help Lake County offer appropriate outdoor programming for underrepresented populations.

Parks, Recreation, and Open Space and Get Outdoors Leadville! (PROS-GOL!) is seeking a Finance and Development Specialist to join our team. This position will primarily support GOL! with its grants portfolio while working with the rest of the PROS-GOL! leadership team on exploring collaborative cross-program grant opportunities. The overall purpose of the position is to provide GOL! finance/bookkeeping support and assist in pursuing financial sustainability for the department through a combination of grant writing and management as well as other fundraising strategies.

Essential Functions

Finance Duties  

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable.
  • Receive and process invoices.
  • Work and Coordinate with the Lake County Government finance team on relevant projects.
  • Reconcile County finance reports with GOL! books.
  • Track YTD expenses and revenues against GOL! budget.
  • Provide monthly finance and budget reports to GOL! Deputy Director.
  • Work with the GOL! Deputy Director to refine budget and/or bookkeeping practices for GOL!
  • Work with Deputy Directors to continue GOL!’s financial integration into the PROS-GOL! department and county systems.
  • Attend required finance trainings for relevant projects.
  • Co-manage the department budget throughout the year and develop yearly budgets on collaboration with PROS-GOL! Director and Deputy Directors.
  • Other projects as necessary and as time permits.

Development Duties

  • Manage large portfolio of existing grants
  • Manage grant calendar and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Work with the PROS-GOL! leadership team to prepare and submit grant reports (financial, invoices, outcomes, impact, etc.)
  • Develop relationships with foundations & program officers as required.
  • Pursue new funding opportunities.
  • Research, identify, and assess new grant opportunities.
  • Collaborate in writing and submitting new grant applications.
  • Research, identify, and assess other funding opportunities including direct-ask donations, fundraising events, and corporate and individual donor programs.
  • Data tracking and evaluation/reporting for key PROS-GOL! program areas.
  • Program-level analysis and impact assessment.
  • Evaluation-driven program improvements recommendations.
  • Content development for annual report.

Other Duties

  • Communication with funders and PROS-GOL! team.
  • Support with content development for annual PROS-GOL! reports.

All Lake County Employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker when a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of County Commissioners. To be prepared for this role, all employees and emergency service function (ESF) leads will attend emergency management trainings and exercises as requested by the Director of Emergency Management. With advanced notification from OEM, employees will make reasonable efforts to attend training events in coordination with other employees and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, public administration or a closely related field preferred OR 3 years related experience working with grants and fundraising in education, government, and/or nonprofits.
  • Fundraising experience, including grant writing and grant management.
  • Strong writing skills (a writing sample will be required). 
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Bookkeeping experience.
  • Experience and passion for working with diverse populations
  • Commitment to advancing equity in the outdoors
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
  • Travel to conferences or events within and outside of the state of Colorado may be required.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Ability to work indoors in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
