Job Description

Estes is looking for a savvy Oracle developer and administrator to assess the company’s data processing needs to produce a robust resource planning infrastructure that can integrate with third party systems and scale the business seamlessly. The ideal candidate will learn the operations of the existing data systems through extensive discovery with various stakeholders to architect the framework needed to support the growing needs of the organization. This Database guru will provide ongoing ERP technical support, drive stakeholders towards process assimilation, use best practices for database maintenance, have a nose for using systems to solve problems and forward thinking to ensure the organization is current with industry best practices and standards. Ultimately, the candidate will make it as easy as possible for database users to access the information they need, effortlessly run through their business processes within the ERP system to meet company objectives and preserve information systems for future company developments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze the needs of the organization and produce an effective database system according to needs and specifications. This includes collecting data, analyzing the data, designing algorithms, drawing flowcharts, and implementing code for the logic developed through the algorithms and flowcharts.
  • Run performance testing procedures to ensure the proper operations of a database and to ensure that it is error-free. If any errors are thrown when the code runs, they need to be corrected and the code needs to be re-tested. This involves troubleshooting any potential problems, creating, and submitting test reports and database improvement.
  • Write documentation about the system during the development process and put together an operational manual. The documentation must include information regarding changes or improvements to the database as they are implemented.
  • Ability to integrate the modules together once the databases/tables are ready, and the front-end development is complete. Knowledge of testing the integrated error correcting code and retesting until it is usable for business needs. Create primary database storage structures once application is completed and modify existing structures as needed.
  • Install/upgrade the Oracle server and application tools as they become available and are approved for implementation.
  • Allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements for the database system.
  • Enroll new users and administer system security while regularly looking for best-in-class practices and enhancements to ensure company, stakeholder and customer information is protected.
  • Develop a control and monitoring process for users accessing the database.
  • Maintain archived data and detailed planning for backup and recovery of database information.
  • Regularly monitor and optimize the performance of the database. Address database user issues and errors with best-in-class attention to detail and service.
  • Ensure compliance with Oracle license agreements and ability to work with 3rd party ERP and Software contracts to ensure maximum value add to the organization.
  • Define, architect, and execute database conversions from Oracle to SQL Server with ability to migrate from on-premises servers to cloud services. Will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that roadmap and milestones are defined and ensure seamless execution of strategy.

Skills and Qualifications

Will have strong analytical skills. This job involves analyzing existing databases and stakeholder needs to develop effective systems.

Strong communication skills, both oral and written. As this position requires working with cross functional departments across various disciplines not related to IT and it’s important that the candidate communicates clearly and fully understands needs. Clear written skills are necessary to write understandable database documentation that leaders in the organization can use to make good business decisions.

Sound accuracy and logic. The candidate must be able to accurately develop databases in a logical manner from scratch.

Understand the concepts of other programming languages. Since databases operate behind the scenes, the ideal candidate will understand the concepts of other front-end programming languages.
